It's seems it is a good timing to have a look to Oracle SOA stack. The installation of Oracle SOA Fusion 11gR1 requires to install in this order :
- an Oracle database
- a WebLogic server
- the Creation Repository Utility
- the SOA Suite and configured a SOA domain on top of Weblogic server
- the SOA Suite's IDE : jDeveloper
Off course, going through this process is very valuable for your learning curve but also time consuming. It seems an interesting exercise to build a "Oracle SOA Fusion11gR1 VirtualBox JeOS Appliance
" (provisioned with Oracle SOA Fusion11gR1 products) ready to use for demo, learning/testing, POCs cases.
This note is part of the following serie :
Why not JeOS OpenSolaris?
Obviously, OpenSolaris couldn't be a compliant candidate for this exercise as the Oracle SOA stack is not completely available on this Operating System.
Which JeOS to be used ?
Most probably for me, this is the easier way today to build a "Linux Virtualbox Appliance" without dealing with "Installation Number" coming with redHat 5.4 Server or Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 5 update 4.
At last Jeos Ubuntu 08-04.3 is available from http://www.ubuntu.com/products/whatisubuntu/serveredition/jeos
- JeOS Oracle Linux Enterprise Release 5 update4
Purpose of this note
Obviously, it makes sense to build "Linux Virtualbox Appliance"on top of Oracle Enterprise Linux Release 5 update 4
This note walks through the process of building a Base Linux VirtualBox Appliance, based on the JeOS Ubuntu 08-04.3 or JeOSOracle Enterprise Linux Release5 update4. It will be used as the underlying infrastructure in future Notes discussing building Oracle SOA Fusion11gR1 appliances used for learning, testing or POC purposes. The major advantage of this infrastructure is that, as well as being fully functional, if is free : no license is required.
At the end of the tutorial we will have a basic Linux VirtualBox Appliance, running the minimal, headless Ubuntu 08-04.3 or or Oracle Enterprise Linux Release5 update4 system, configured to use Bridged networking.
