New Oracle SPARC Cloud Services, Engineered Systems, and Servers
Oracle has announced major new additions to the SPARC platform that for the first time bring the advanced security, efficiency and simplicity of SPARC to the cloud. Built on the new SPARC S7 microprocessor, the latest additions to the SPARC platform include new cloud services, engineered systems and servers.
New Servers at Commodity Price Points
Oracle’s SPARC S7 server extends the platform into scale-out applications and cloud infrastructure while offering x86 commodity cost points. Its built-in efficiency, along with its hardwired data analytics accelerators, make the S7 particularly well-suited for today’s big data workloads, which increasingly incorporate artificial intelligence capabilities that enable the computer to interpret larger and larger data sets at deeper and deeper levels. The new processor allows for up to 10 times better, more efficient data analytics and machine learning than x86-based systems and their up to 1.7x better core efficiency than x86 systems lowers costs for running Java applications and databases.
A New Smaller Engineered System
Oracle MiniCluster S7-2 is an extremely simple and efficient engineered system designed to run enterprise databases and applications with uncompromising security. It was born from customer feedback asking for a smaller addition to the family, an extension of the SuperCluster into the midrange, Its small form factor make it an excellent choice for remote offices, small offices, and agile software development (DevOps) environments. It is ideal for highly security-sensitive applications, such as managing patient medical records, processing financial transactions, handling secure communications, running mission-critical enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications, and hosting security-related services.
SPARC Compute Now Available in the Oracle Cloud
The new Oracle SPARC Compute cloud service extends the SPARC platform to the Oracle Cloud. SPARC Compute delivers the unmatched simplicity, security and efficiency of SPARC through a dedicated public cloud service managed by Oracle. It extends Oracle’s comprehensive suite of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS cloud services and gives organizations the ability to deploy both SPARC and x86 workloads on a unified public cloud infrastructure – the Oracle Cloud.
ISV Partners Leveraging SPARC S7Independent Software Vendors are finding amazing results using the new Software in Silicon features of SPARC S7 and M7:
“ As the provider of an advanced In-memory computing analytical platform, we are always looking at innovative ways of increasing our performance. We have been testing the SPARC M7 and S7 Data Analytics Accelerator (DAX) open APIs and initial results show our queries running an amazing 6-8 times faster. These results were achieved while we had up to 8x lower CPU usage, as the DAX engines offload the cores and free them up to do other work.” - Antoine Chambille, CTO, Quartet FS.
"As a leading telecom network and software solutions provider in China, timely and high quality software delivery are imperative for our business. Our solutions are multi-threaded, memory intensive and response time sensitive and demand high performance. Working with Oracle and using the Silicon Secured Memory feature on SPARC M7 and S7 we have been able to shorten time to find and fix bugs by 3 days. This is a huge benefit as detecting and fixing memory access issues is normally a very difficult and time consuming process." - Fu Tingsheng, Director of CMC IP & Network Delivery, Asiainfo
You Can Test Drive This Revolutionary Technology
Developers can access the new S7 servers and their revolutionary Software in Silicon features such as Data Analytics Accelerators(DAX) and Silicon Secured Memory (SSM) by using the Software in Silicon Cloud. Software in Silicon Cloud is a robust and secure cloud platform with ready-to-run virtual environments, available freely to all OPN members, enterprise developers and university researchers to test their applications with the Software in Silicon features of Oracle SPARC S7 and M7 systems running Oracle Solaris 11. It includes the latest Oracle Solaris Studio developer tools.
