New Oracle SPARC Cloud Services, Engineered Systems, and Servers

Oracle has announced major new additions to the SPARC platform that for the first time bring the advanced security, efficiency and simplicity of SPARC to the cloud. Built on the new SPARC S7 microprocessor, the latest additions to the SPARC platform include new cloud services, engineered systems and servers.

New Servers at Commodity Price Points

Oracle’s SPARC S7 server extends the platform into scale-out applications and cloud infrastructure while offering x86 commodity cost points. Its built-in efficiency, along with its hardwired data analytics accelerators, make the S7 particularly well-suited for today’s big data workloads, which increasingly incorporate artificial intelligence capabilities that enable the computer to interpret larger and larger data sets at deeper and deeper levels. The new processor allows for up to 10 times better, more efficient data analytics and machine learning than x86-based systems and their up to 1.7x better core efficiency than x86 systems lowers costs for running Java applications and databases.

A New Smaller Engineered System

Oracle MiniCluster S7-2 is an extremely simple and efficient engineered system designed to run enterprise databases and applications with uncompromising security. It was born from customer feedback asking for a smaller addition to the family, an extension of the SuperCluster into the midrange, Its small form factor make it an excellent choice for remote offices, small offices, and agile software development (DevOps) environments. It is ideal for highly security-sensitive applications, such as managing patient medical records, processing financial transactions, handling secure communications, running mission-critical enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications, and hosting security-related services.

SPARC Compute Now Available in the Oracle Cloud

The new Oracle SPARC Compute cloud service extends the SPARC platform to the Oracle Cloud. SPARC Compute delivers the unmatched simplicity, security and efficiency of SPARC through a dedicated public cloud service managed by Oracle. It extends Oracle’s comprehensive suite of SaaS, PaaS and IaaS cloud services and gives organizations the ability to deploy both SPARC and x86 workloads on a unified public cloud infrastructure – the Oracle Cloud.

Independent Software Vendors are finding amazing results using the new Software in Silicon features of SPARC S7 and M7:

Teamcenter on Oracle Engineered System 10,000+ Concurrent Users Solution Brief

In order to address PLM requirements for large Automotive, Aerospace and other manufacturing companies, Oracle and Siemens PLM engineering teams recently completed a benchmarking and sizing effort using a huge 50 car program database – nearly 1 TB database - with 10,000 concurrent rich client usage profile users on Oracle SuperCluster M7. The following results were achieved:

  • 5x improvement in database / volume import times vs. SAN storage deployments
  • Best Teamcenter transaction response times on the Solaris platform to date at 10,000 concurrent users
  • Streamlined ability to configure redundancy / failover of Teamcenter tiers with Solaris embedded virtualization (LDOMS)
  • Virtually flat server response times  for most transactions
  • No configuration changes required for OS, DB, or Teamcenter

The Advantage of Running Temenos on Oracle Engineered Systems

Temenos WealthManager is Optimized for Oracle SuperCluster

Java or enterprise applications running on Oracle Database 11gR2 or higher and Oracle Solaris 11 can run up to 20X faster than traditional platforms on Oracle SuperCluster without any changes to their code.
