PREVIOUS ISSUES

Oracle OpenWorld has always been the most important event of the year for Oracle partners, and the 2011 conference is no exception. More than ever, it's being run with a partner-centric approach, which means attending OPN members will be the first to see the latest Oracle products and solutions, and meet with experts who can help them get better results with Oracle technology.

But with more than 2000 conference sessions, hundreds of exhibitors, networking sessions, training, concerts and awards ceremonies, where do you begin? Here, I'll reveal some of the most exciting things that you can expect to see and do, and provide practical advice on how to best leverage your time and create your personal agenda

Registration and Accommodation

But first: registration. I really can't stress this enough—if you still plan to attend Oracle OpenWorld— register now! Although you can buy tickets on site from 1st October 2011, pre-registering online before then is highly recommended. Advance booking saves you up to $200 on the ticket price and will get you into the event much faster than registering on the day. And the good thing is: you can book your hotel accommodation during the registration process on preferred pricing.

Building Your Agenda

A full conference schedule can be found on the Oracle OpenWorld website here and a comprehensive sessions overview can be accessed through the content catalog, structured by different product and industry area.

Once you are registered, you then will have access to the Schedule Builder to create your own personalised agenda. This is highly recommended because there's so much see and do. You choose the tracks you want, and it filters out the rest, giving you a clear guide for where you need to go, and where you need to be during the conference.

To help you build your schedule, here I'll point out the sessions that will be of most value to you.

Key Sessions

Sunday 2nd October: Oracle PartnerNetwork Forum (09:00—17:00) and Welcome Keynote (17.30)

Oracle OpenWorld 2011 kicks off on Sunday 2nd October with the Oracle PartnerNetwork Forum. For partners, this really is a "must-attend" event—one that emphasises Oracle's partner-dedicated approach. The forum takes place between 09:00 and 17:00 and over the course of the day, you will be the first—outside Oracle—to hear the latest on Oracle channel strategy and directions.

The forum starts with a range of Partner Special Interest Group Sessions. In these sessions, Oracle product, industry, and channel teams will talk to partners direct, reveal future strategies and help them identify opportunities and tactics to increase sales. You can see the full listing of the Special Interest Groups here.

The group sessions will be followed by a networking lunch. This is a unique opportunity for OPN members from all over the world to talk, and share their knowledge and experience over some lunch.

After lunch, it is important for you to attend the Global General Session. Here, you will hear from Oracle's top executives, who will reveal key announcements, explain Oracle's FY12 vision and unveil resources that will help you strengthen your market opportunities with Oracle and get specialized.

Between 15:00 and 17:00 the regional meetings take place. It's a chance for you in Europe, Middle East & Africa to meet with your Oracle Alliances and Channels Management team and peers to discuss opportunities unique to your territory. The EMEA session is going to be tremendously valuable as you will be able to meet Dermot O'Kelly, our new Senior Vice President for EMEA Alliances and Channels, so I strongly urge EMEA partners to come and take this opportunity!

At the end of the EMEA session we will host the EMEA Networking Reception where we will be proud to announce the winners of this year's EMEA OPN Partner Specialization Awards. This is a chance to recognise the successes of Oracle partners in EMEA and celebrate the contribution they make to Oracle's continuing success.

From there, we proceed to the Oracle OpenWorld Welcome Keynote at 17:30 in Moscone North, Hall D (also live broadcasted to Moscone South, Gateway 102-104):

Extreme Innovation
Larry Ellison, CEO Oracle
Mark Hurd, President Oracle
Safra Catz, President Oracle

Anyone who has been to Oracle OpenWorld before will know that this keynote is the first taste of the excitement to come during the week!

During this session the winners of the Oracle Excellence Awards: Specialized Partner of the Year will also be announced. We have some partners in EMEA nominated for these Awards, so good luck to them!
