OBIEE 11.1.1 - How-to change the existing JVM for OBIEE 11g domain

Below examples explains how to change the JDK when running in console mode. On Windows, if you have converted the the processes to a Windows service, then the changes will be made in the registry (example below).

1. Download and install the desired / certified JDK for your environment
2. Stop the environment.
3. Backup the following file:
  • Unix/Linux:  [middleware_home]/user_projects/domains/bifoundation_domain/bin/setDomainEnv.sh
  • Windows:    [middleware_home]\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\bin\setDomainEnv.cmd

4. Edit the respective file and make the following changes:
set JAVA_VENDOR="[your option]" -- the options are listed above
set BEA_JAVA_HOME=[path to your JDK]

This example will show changing to Oracle JRockit on Windows:
set JAVA_VENDOR="Oracle"
set BEA_JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jrockit-jdk1.6.0_22-R28.1.1-4.0.1

This example will show changing to Oracle JRockit on Linux/Unix:
JAVA_VENDOR="Oracle"
export JAVA_VENDOR
BEA_JAVA_HOME="/usr/java/jrockit-jdk1.6.0_24-R28.1.3-4.0.1"
