Performance of Web 2.0 Apps with Glassfish Webstack and OpenSolaris
By Brian Overstreet on Apr 13, 2009
Shanti et al. have just posted an informative Blueprint called "Deploying Web 2.0 Applications on Sun Servers and the OpenSolaris™ Operating System."
In this Blueprint, Olio is used to evaluate the performance of OpenSolaris and the Sun Glassfish Webstack. In addition to showing the performance numbers and architecture, there is also a section which discusses the best practices used to have this stack scale to 10,000 concurrent users. These include using /tmp for file uploads, configuring swap, using multiple directories for sessions in PHP, optimizing the memcached tier, and using solid state drives.
