Virtual Technology Summit - Spotlight on Middleware

Register now for OTN's new Virtual Technology Summit - September 16, 2015. Hear from Oracle ACEs, Java Champions and Oracle Product Experts, as they share their insights and expertise through Hands-on-Labs, highly technical presentations and demos that enable you to master the skills you need to meet today's IT challenges. Chat live with folks and ask your questions as you attend sessions.

Middleware Spotlight: Middleware in the Cloud: PaaS Gets Real - The middleware track in the Fall 2015 edition of the OTN Virtual Technology Summit puts the spotlight on Oracle's Mobile Cloud Service (MCS), Process Cloud Service (PCS), and Java Cloud Service (JCS), three of the more than two dozen new services available on the Oracle Cloud Platform. In each of the three deep-dive sessions a recognized expert from the OTN community walks you through a technical how-to to demonstrate how you can use these PaaS services, and compares each to its on-premise counterparts. PaaS services loom large in the future for developers and architects, so if you're developing enterprise mobile applications, or working with Oracle BPM or WebLogic, you'll want to make sure these #OTNVTS sessions are on your calendar. There are three sessions in the Middleware track:

  • Mobile by Design: Developing with Mobile Cloud Service - In this session you will learn how to use Oracle Mobile Cloud Service to enable your enterprise applications and existing services for simpler, faster, more transparent and more secure mobile access. Learn how to build a robust Mobile Backend as a Service (MBaaS) using Oracle Mobile Suite, and learn how to customize that MBaaS using one of many thousands of available Node.js modules.

  • Getting Started with Oracle Process Cloud Service (PCS): Oracle's BPM on the Cloud - One of the great frustrations businesses face today is the time, money and effort it takes to solve their own business problems. Oracle Process Cloud Service (PCS) addresses this recurring issue by providing a Business Process Management (BPM) solution in the cloud. This session will show how PCS offers a more business-oriented approach to deliver automated process solutions. The demonstration will include tips on getting started, how processes are modeled, the use of business rule decisions, how user interfaces are designed and tested, the integration of services into the process, and how end users interact with the completed application.

  • Getting Started with Java Cloud Service: A WebLogic Administrator's View - Oracle's Java Cloud Service (JCS) is here -- not just the SaaS Extension flavor, but full-blown JCS: clustered WebLogic, Coherence (optionally) and Traffic Director, in the cloud yet under your full control. This session looks at full JCS from the WebLogic administrator's perspective: what it offers, how it's managed, and what sort of applications can be deployed. The session will include some serious digging around - logged into the virtual servers exploring how WebLogic is installed, how the domains are configured, and how to make the customizations needed for real-world applications.

OTN Virtual Technology Summit - Spotlight on Middleware Track

OTN Virtual Technology Summit - Spotlight on Middleware Track

It's All About WebLogic

The Middleware Track for the July 2015 edition of the Oracle Technology Network Virtual Technology Summit brings together three experts on Oracle Fusion Middleware to present how-to technical sessions on WebLogic Server's role in today's middleware architectures. The sessions in this track will focus on security and authentication, service monitoring and exploration, and on WebLogic 12c's new APIs and tools for application development. Other products and technologies covered in these sessions include Oracle SOA Suite, Service Bus, JMX, JAX-RS, JSON, WebSocket, and more.

Middleware Track Sessions:

Debugging Weblogic Authentication
By Maarten Smeets, Senior Oracle SOA / ADF Developer, AMIS
Enterprises often centrally manage login information and group memberships (identity). Many systems use this information to achieve Single Sign On (SSO) functionality, for example. Surprisingly, access to the Weblogic Server Console is often not centrally managed. This session will explain why centralizing management of these identities not only increases security, but can also reduce operational cost and even increase developer productivity. The session will demonstrate several methods for debugging authentication using an external LDAP server in order to lower the bar to apply this pattern. This technically-oriented presentation will be especially useful for people working in operations who are responsible for managing Weblogic Servers.

Real-Time Service Monitoring and Exploration
By Oracle ACE Associate Robert van Molken , Senior Oracle Integration Specialist, AMIS
There is a great deal of value in knowing which services are deployed and correctly running on an Oracle SOA Suite or Service Bus instance. This session will explain and demonstrate how to retrieve this data using JMX and the available Managed Beans on Weblogic. You will learn how the data can be retrieved using existing Java APIs, and how to explore dependencies between Service Bus and SOA Suite. You'll also learn how the retrieved data can be used to create a simple dashboard or even detailed reports.

New APIs and Tools for Application Development in WebLogic 12c
By Shukie Ganguly,Senior Technology Architect, Oracle
WebLogic Server 12.1.3 provides support for innovative APIs and productive Tools for application development, including APIs for JAX-RS 2.0, JSON Processing (JSR 353), WebSocket (JSR 356), and JPA 2.1. This session will provide an overview of each of these APIs, and then demonstrate how you can use these capabilities to simplify the development of server applications accessed by "rich" clients using lightweight web-based protocols such as REST and WebSocket.

Operating Systems, Virtualization Technologies, and Hardware: Oracle Linux application optimization for Oracle stack
The main benefits of deploying Oracle Linux are its optimizations for the Oracle stack and the newer capabilities such as Docker that you can access long before they are released in the major Red Hat distributions. Did you know, however, that you can also optimize your applications to run better on the Oracle stack using Oracle Solaris Studio? In spite of the name, it is designed to help your Oracle Linux applications take advantage of performance, security, and reliability advances across the entire Oracle stack, particularly Oracle Database. The first two sessions will show you how to migrate from Red Hat Linux to Oracle Linux and give you an overview of the Oracle Solaris Studio IDE capabilities. And just in case you'd like to practice a little, the third session will show some advanced techniques for deploying applications using Oracle Virtual Box.

Cheers,

OTN Team

OTN Virtual Technology Summit - Spotlight on Middleware

Reuse in Oracle SOA Suite 12c: Templates, libraries or services?

Few would argue the value of reuse, and choosing the right type of reuse can greatly speed development, decrease maintenance efforts, and reduce the number of errors by eliminating redundant code. Oracle SOA Suite 12c offers several ways to reuse code, implement patterns, and quickly start your project. These options vary from project skeletons using Maven poms, to composite templates, and creating services. This session will explain the differences between a pattern, a library, and a (micro)service, and will present real-life examples of how you can use SOA Suite 12c to work with Maven, BPEL and OSB templates, BPEL subprocesses, and services. You'll learn how to avoid common pitfalls, you'll understand the facilities that SOA Suite offers to create consistent quality in projects, and you'll be better equipped to choose the appropriate reuse method (library, pattern, or service) for any situation.

OTN's Virtual Technology Summit - Spotlight on Java Session

OTN's Virtual Technology Summit - Spotlight on Java Session - Reactive Java EE. Let Me Count the Ways!

As our industry matures there is an increasing demand for high-throughput, low-latency systems heavily utilizing event-driven programming and asynchronous processing. This trend is rapidly converging on the somewhat well established but so-far not well understood term "Reactive". This session explores how Java EE as a whole aligns with this movement via features and APIs like JMS, MDB, EJB @Asynchronous, JAX-RS/Servlet/WebSocket async, CDI events, Java EE concurrency utilities and so on. We will also see how these robust facilities can be made digestible even in the most complex cases for mere mortal developers through Java SE 8 Lambdas and Completable Futures.
