Rich Enterprise Apps: Front and Center at Oracle Develop Beijing
By oracletechnet on Dec 10, 2008
I was not in attendance, but word got back to me that the Oracle Develop keynote in Beijing this week went well, particularly in regard to the unveiling of rea.oracle.com, a new micro-site that aggregates demos, downloads, and technical information about the tools and frameworks Oracle provides for building rich enterprise applications (REAs). The site is a joint endeavor between development and OTN.
Rich Enterprise Applications (REAs), as we now know, are highly interactive Web apps that give users a "desktop-like" experience. Unlike their often flashier brethren, rich internet apps (RIAs), REAs are built on a foundation steeled with enterprise-class technology and thus are more appropriate for (surprise) enterprise apps.
The very interesting thing about rea.oracle.com, in addition to its content, is the fact the front end of the site itself was built with Oracle ADF Faces Rich Client components, with the back end developed with Oracle ADF Business components, using Oracle JDeveloper 11g. The whole enchilada runs on an Oracle Database/Oracle WebLogic Server image on Amazon EC2. Nice!
For those of you who want an overview of REAs without visiting the site, this video will do you some good:
