There's A Virtual Developer Day in Your Future

What are Virtual Developer Days? You really should know this by now.

OTN Virtual Developer Days are online events created specifically for developers and architects, with a focus on no-fluff technical presentations, hands-on labs, and expert Q&A to sharpen your technical skills and bring you up to speed on the latest information on Oracle products and practical best practices for their use.

The best part about OTN Virtual Developer Days is that you don't have to pack a suitcase or stand in line at an airport waiting for someone pat you down. Instead, you stay where you are, flip open your laptop, and prepare your brain for a massive skills injection.

In the next few weeks you'll have two such chances to ramp up your skills.

Are you up to speed on Oracle Application Express 4.2?

Here's what to know:

Oracle Application Express (aka: APEX) release 4.2 is installed by default in Oracle Database 12c. When you install Oracle Database 12c Multitenant Architecture, APEX is installed into the multitenant container database by default.

An interesting bit of trivia to impress your friends:

A single multitenant container database can have up to 252 pluggable databases (PDBs).

A cool feature of APEX 4.2:

APEX can be removed from the multitenant container database and re-installed locally into a single pluggable database. So a single Oracle Database 12c Multitenant Architecture can run different versions of APEX in each PDB.

What's new:

APEX 4.2.3 was released on September 16th, 2013. It is a cumulative patch set for APEX 4.2, 4.2.1 and 4.2.2.  You can get it here.

Ready to learn more:

Look at this learning path for APEX.  Free tutorials on how to create and run a database using APEX 4.2, manipulate database objects, add security to database applications.

Ciao for now~

Oracle OpenWorld 2013 - A Community Perspective

Oracle OpenWorld 2013 enters the history books as another fantastic event. Between Oracle Team USA winning the America's Cup (on a boat stuffed full of Oracle technology), Oracle unveiling new technologies that support greater innovation, and all the action at JavaOne, it will be hard to beat. See Ace Director Danny Bryant's perspective on the event, and his experience connecting with Oracle DBAs and experts. Jason Arneil also reports on his 5th outing to OOW. If there is any event you must have on the calendar, it has to be Oracle OpenWorld, and Jeff Smith gives a great overview of why.

Over the coming weeks, keep checking back to the Oracle OpenWorld Content Catalog where the presentations and additional content will be posted for attendees to access.

Finally, a note of thanks for hanging out at the OTN Lounge. We had a great time meeting you all and hosting the developer challenges, presentations and meetups. Be sure to keep those Tweets and Comments coming!
