B131 with Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7

Hi All,

So I've been working on a Samsung NC20, working to get a solid base working with Ubuntu 9.10 and an AT&T 3G usb modem.

I was creating the best hardware platform for a JavaFX project to run on, I'm sending the Samsung to the JavaFX team today.

I was left with the AT&T 3G usb modem, so I thought, why not install Ubuntu on the MSI Wind.

It already had Window 7 and OpenSolaris B131 and a 40Gb fat32 partition between the two OS's, so I decided to install Ubuntu 9.10 here.

Now the MSI will boot Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.10 or OpenSolaris B131.

I may even try to get the AT&T modem working under OpenSolaris.

B131 evolution contacts fixed

Hi All,

So under Nevada I built my own Evolution version, I included openldap and weather, which we turn off.

I'd backed up my Evolution before blowing away the hard drive and installing OpenSolaris B131.

I think my contacts problem was that they had been written out in OpenLdap format.

I had a csv version of my contacts, so I did a little brain surgery on Evolution, deleting addressbook from .evolution and .gconf/apps/evolution, then did a restart.

Evolution on the first time up after the restart creates a personal addressbook, which I imported my contacts into, then created Work and imported again.

So now my Evolution is happy happy again.

Evolution contacts issues on OpenSolaris B131

Hi All,

So I had to start the entire install process of B131 again.

Once I had the system installed I did a restore of my evolution data, the contacts would not work, no problems, do what I did on Nevada, just go to my source store, rebuild and install evolution.

Not good, ended up with an nss issue I just could not get around, evolution crashing on start-up, spent about three hours trying to fix.

I've restarted the install process again, evolution contacts are still not correct, I'll have to find out what's really going on Monday.

I can at least rebuild the system from the external usb ZFS drive in a short period of time, I soft link my Documents to a directory on the USB ZFS drive, I backed up the old Nevada /usr/lib onto the USB ZFS drive also.

BTW, I did get my offer letter from Oracle today, I'll be saying "yes", I'm looking forward to new adventures, it's been awhile since I've work on an SQL DB.

I am feeling sad for the good friends I'm loosing, but hope we can keep in contact, and wish them the best.

Hopefully my neck muscles will now relax a little.

OpenSolaris B131 and VirtualBox 3.1.4 beta 1 Truly Magic

Hi All,

So I'm typing this in on Firefox, running on Windows 7 Ultimate, as a client on B131, VB 3.1.4 beta 1.

Man VB 3.1.4 beta 1 is fast, or maybe it's getting off Nevada and onto OpenSolaris.

I've toasted my Evolution install, but I'll get it right in the end.

Mplayer is doing m4vs without any issues at all, full screen, GL output, great sound.

OpenSolaris B131 on MSI, not good

Hi All,

FYI I did a B131 image-update on the MSI yesterday twice.

Both times the system craps out on pcie errors during boot.

Have not had time to debug or post bug yet.

I have rolled back to B130.

Nevada (SXCE) to OpenSolaris B131

Hi All,

Still here, I've finally started to replace Nevada on my main laptop, the Asus C90S to OpenSolaris B131.

I stored everything of to a ZFS USB HD.

The system looks like it's running much faster.

I'll do a full report after I'm finished.

B131 on Acer Aspire One 10"

Hi All,

Just did an image-update on a B128a install to B131.

suspend / resume is working again, compiz is fine also without /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

Looks like engineering has been busy.
