I want Apple Itunes on OpenSolaris - vote here ???

Hi All,

So we started a list to get Adobe to give us  Reader on Solaris.

I'd like to start a campaign to get Apple to port ITunes to OpenSolaris.

 Comment "Yes" to vote.

Update 1/26/09

Sorry everyone, I understand that there a lots of ways to deal with music for an IPOD on opensolaris already.

- Libgpod (possible legal issues)

- gtkpod

- rhytmbox

- songbird

- etc

I'm looking at a new non technical user in an emerging market, being presented with a netbook choice, who already has an IPod, Itunes makes the choice for them Windows or MAC.

IPOD is the driver in the market, ITunes is how you download and managed the device.

The option for WINE or Vitrualbox and Windows is just overkill to save having to talk with Apple.

I really don't want to be a second class IPOD support platform.

I love my ITouch, I cannnot get to it from OpenSolaris with GTKPod or Rhytmbox without hacking on it.

With an IPod Nano I can get OpenSolaris to open GTKPod or Rhytmbox when I plug it into the laptop.

There are lots of different formats I can handle on my laptop based on the fact I'm a pretty good hacker.

I don't want users who buy a netbook from a OpenSolaris OEM to have to do that.

You guys are really building a great list of applications we should have native on OpenSolaris.

I'm not sure about you guys but I get very few "Blue Screens of Death" or system crashes with OpenSolaris, I really don't have to worry about viruses either.

If we are going to keep Sun investing in OpenSolaris, we have to make it usable by a novice user, it just has to work like a Windows or Apple netbook.

We have the Firefox browser, Evolution for mail, calendar, todo and memos. OpenOffice for docs, spreadsheets and presentations.

We need the killer app, I think it's ITunes.

I've kept a Windows XP Home partition on one of the Acer One netbooks just for ITunes.

I'm really enjoying buying DVD's with digital copy, that I download the movie onto my ITouch for on the plane rides I take.

I want to have only one laptop, one set of data stores and one set of applications.

Yes, making a deal for proprietary software is in general not a good idea.

The issue is my bosses are asking me how to make money on OpenSolaris so we can keep pumping in lots of development resources ($$$$)

Where is the biggest area of group in the market today ? netbooks

What stops regular John Doe and Jane Doe from buying a Linux or OpenSolaris netbook solution ?

I cannot sync my IPOD, I cannot buy music or movies from Apple.

Plus the other software people have mentioned today, Skype.

The only way to get these companies to invest in OpenSolaris is to show them consumer volumes with OpenSolaris.
