FAT32 funny on OpenSolaris B122

Hi All,

I've been working on the B122 OpenSolaris Acer One 10", I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed on the first partition, FAT32 in the middle and ZFS at the end.

I mount the FAT32 partition via /etc/vfstab during boot.

My Documents is coming up in read only mode.

If I try to do a chmod -R 777 /shared_fat32/Daves/My\\ Documents nothing happens.

If I bring up nautilus and change the properties to read / write and apply to all sub folders, it actually does it.

I can now create files in My Music, My Pictures, etc.

Wish I could work out why ?

Dave

Comments:

Run truss(1) on the nautilus process during the time it is changing the properties to see the syscall arguments (and compare with what chmod(1) does). Comparing the state before and after changing the properties with nautilus would help too :-)

PCFS in Solaris is not funny, its crap. It needs to be rewritten.

I recommend Sun should port NetBSD's implementation over which is \*much\* better!
Although I am prob talking to a brick wall here..

Cheers,

Hi,

Thanks for truss idea, I have the source code for nautilus I'll take a look.

Edward, I'm not a brick wall, just and engineer, I forward all suggestions into my engineering group.

We may have a few more priority issues than fat32.

Thanks
Dave

Hi,

Good to know at leas your willing to lisen and forward the info on.
If a eng is willing I can port with him, I think it would be considered a fair proity for the following reasons:

A.) Your after market share for dev which use normal desktops and use pens a lot

B.) I have seen data lose with pcfs

Regards,
Edward
