Asus Eee 701 PC and OpenSolaris 2008.11 100a

Hi All,

Just did a full install of 2008.11 100a on my Asus Eee 701.

I had to replace the SUNWatheros driver from the install with 7.3 from opensolaris.org.

I upgraded the I915 to the one I use for the Acer One, the Eee is running in 800x480.

Getting some problems with pkg manager and python errors.

Looks like trying to install more than one package at a time is difficult on this slow processor.

shift+F5 switches between internal LCD and external monitor without issues.

Comments:

What's the i915 change Dave? I'm pretty sure I'm using the stock i915 driver on my 701 with no problems. (s3-suspend works fine with it)

Haven't seen pkg problems here, but haven't used the gui (there's 2gb ram in mine though, wonder is that a factor?) I've been image-updating since nv_86 on a 30gb usb hard disc, zfs send/recving the updated boot dataset to the internal 4gb ssd.

Hi Tim,

That's pretty cool I just did a suspend for the first time ever on an OpenSolaris laptop (the Eee) it works. That was cool. Good grief the Acer Aspire One, with the Intel Atom chipset just went into suspend mode to, i saw the cursor for a second after pushing the power button on the One, then nothing.

I've got 1Gb memory and 8 Gb SSD in the Eee 701, as long as I use the pkg command in terminal and only one at a time it works fine.

I just used the i915 driver development gave me for the Acer Aspire One, see if it was faster. Probably did not need to use it :-)
