From Intellectual Property to Change Management

The textbook definition of training = the process of teaching, or developing a skill or knowledge that relates to specific useful competencies.

But in reality, and indeed in our current business reality, the value of training goes beyond simply acquiring a skill.

In Intellectual Capital: The New Wealth of Organizations, Thomas Stewart argues that in our information age “knowledge has become the preeminent economic resource—more important than raw material; even more important, often, than money.”

  • This supports the idea that a company’s achievements are the sum of what employees achieve individually.
  • In fact, intellectual property is widely considered the major source of competitive advantage for the modern business.
  • Based on this hypothesis, organizations are only as good as the collective knowledge of their employees.

An obvious way to fully leverage this advantage involves empowering employees to always perform at their peak.

Another defining aspect of the modern business landscape is operating under constant innovation and disruption.

Ultimately, it is often the power to adapt and to leverage innovation for their competitive advantage that defines the success or failure of modern businesses.

Investing in training solutions to guide your employees through your transformation journey can help maximize your technology investment sooner and more effectively.

Training can be a solid foundation for your change management approach. It will accelerate the adoption of new technologies, while empowering your teams to confidently navigate this shift and stay on the cutting edge of knowledge and practice.

This strategy of empowerment through learning and development is a common thread through successful organizations and can be linked back to employee retention, as well as supporting the organization’s objectives.

A Culture of Learning

Technology doesn’t stand still and neither should your business.

In this highly competitive business era, your company’s greatest threat is being left behind by failing to adapt to changing circumstances and new challenges.

Building a culture of learning from within your organization can be the key to your business success. A learning organization is committed to constant growth and improvement, and its employees are empowered for professional achievement.

In the new Oracle University eBook titled “The Value of Training for Organizations and Employees”, we examine the benefits of weaving learning and training into your organizational fabric.

This is a great article! Training employees well is the key to a successful business. I love the point that organizations are only as good as the collective knowledge of their employees. This is why it's so important to have a great training plan in place. Anyone looking to build this learning culture should start by looking for examples of training plans for employees. This is a great starting point to building out the right plan for employees. By focusing on employee professional development, in addition to product & skill training, in a training plan will show employees that they are valued and that the business cares about their development, which will lead to higher employee morale and less turnover. All great things for any company!
