Support Your Oracle CPQ Cloud (BigMachines) Deployment through Training

by Jim Vonick, Oracle University Market Development Manager

With the recent acquisition of BigMachines, Oracle has added a Configure, Price and Quote (CPQ) solution to your portfolio of cloud applications.

During an Oracle CPQ Cloud deployment, the immediate goal is to accelerate the implementation and adoption of your application so your business can successfully automate its entire Quote-to-Cash process.

Implementation team members, including system administrators, need the knowledge and skills to ensure a smooth and rapid implementation of the Oracle CPQ Cloud application. During set-up, it's important to optimize the configuration for your business. To do so, team members need to understand the foundation and available options so the decisions made during set-up best align with the business.

Initial deployment: enhance the as-delivered application

During the initial deployment, or possibly at some later time, you may also choose to enhance the as-delivered application to meet your unique use cases.  This requires a deep understanding of the application and knowledge of how to use the Oracle BigMachines Markup Language (BML).  Furthermore, you may want to integrate the Oracle CPQ Cloud applications with other applications.

To meet these objectives, training is recommended to support your Oracle CPQ Cloud deployment.  Oracle University now delivers training for BigMachines. Our courses are developed in collaboration with the BigMachines product team, which assures the training content is relevant and accurate.

Training for administrators and implementers

  • Oracle BigMachines Yellow Belt for the Business User (Coming Soon): learn the basic structure and components of the application and how to communicate business requirements to administrators before, during and after the implementation.
  • Oracle BigMachines Blue Belt: learn how to use the BigMachines application to meet advanced use cases.  Note that this course is a bundle of the Blue Belt Advanced BML, Advanced Configuration, Advanced Commerce and Advanced Document Engine courses.
  • Oracle BigMachines Advanced BML: learn how to use the BigMachines Markup Language (BML) to write functions that accomplish complex use cases on your Oracle BigMachines site.
  • Oracle BigMachines Blue Belt Advanced Commerce: learn how to use BML and other advanced modification techniques to extend functionality of the point-and-click interface within Commerce; this will help you meet your complex business requirements.

DBA and Developer Guide to MySQL

Written by Diana Gray, Principal Curriculum Product Manager, Oracle University

MySQL is the most trusted and depended-on open source database platform in use today. 9 out of the 10 most popular and highly-trafficked websites in the world rely on MySQL, primarily due to its ubiquity across heterogeneous platform and application stacks.

MySQL is well-known for its performance, reliability and ease of use. MySQL 5.6 builds on the momentum by delivering across the board improvements that enable innovative DBA and developers to create and deploy the next generation of web, embedded and Cloud/SaaS/DaaS applications on the latest generation of development frameworks and hardware platforms.

Building the Next Generation of Web Applications and Services

At a glance, MySQL 5.6 is simply a better MySQL, with improvements that enhance every functional area of the database kernel, including:

  • Improved InnoDB storage engine for better transactional throughput.
  • Improved Optimizer for better query execution times and diagnostics.
  • Better application availability with online DDL/schema changes.
  • Better developer agility with NoSQL Access, with Memcached API to InnoDB.
  • Improved replication for high performance, self-healing distributed deployments.
  • Improved security for worry-free application deployments.
  • Improved performance schema for better instrumentation.
MySQL Course and Certification Exam Releases

The MySQL for Database Administrator and MySQL for Developers course releases are aligned with newly GA release of MySQL 5.6 Developer and MySQL 5.6 Database Administrator OCP certification exams.

Invest in hands-on training and study to pass certification exams that will validate your expertise.

New Performance Tools for Java 7

By Michael Williams, Principal Curriculum Developer

Have you ever wished for an easy way to monitor your application's performance and analyze the application's performance over time? With the release of Java 7 u40, your wish has just come true.

Two tools are are now bundled with the Java JDK. Both tools have been around for a while as part of Oracle Fusion Middleware, but now have been ported to the Hotspot JVM.

Java Mission Control

Java Mission Control is a live monitoring and analysis tool for Java 7. This tool lets you monitor live data coming from a running JVM. Mission Control has a modern, customizable user interface which allows you to chart only the data you're interested in. In addition, the triggers feature lets you notify specific personnel about key events that occur in your application. Finally, Mission Control can load recordings from Java Flight Recorder for detailed analysis.

Oracle Java Flight Recorder

Oracle Java Flight Recorder is a tool for recording key information about your application over time. Much like an airline flight recorder, Java Flight Recorder stores key telemetry from your application as it runs; it then loads recordings into Mission Control for detailed analysis. Recordings can be run continuously on your applications with minimal impact on performance.

Java Performance Tuning with Mission Control and Flight Recorder Training

Interested in learning more about these tools?

Oracle University has released the new Java Performance Tuning with Mission Control and Flight Recorder course. This course deep dives into Oracle Mission Control and Flight Recorder, along with other interesting performance-related information, including:

  • Details about how garbage collection works in the JVM.
  • A detailed review of the garbage collectors available in Hotspot, including the new G1 garbage collector.
  • Profiling your application using NetBeans and other tools.
  • Detecting and troubleshooting common performance issues like memory leaks and contention issues.
  • Tuning guidelines for each of the Java garbage collectors.
