As the benefits of Database as a Service (DBaaS) extend beyond those of the "as-a-service" delivery mode, allowing access to a broad range of external data sources to power business processes and augment in-house systems of record, the DBaaS market is expected to grow rapidly in the following years.
Recent Findings Show that Major Growth is Expected in the DBaaS Space
- According to 451research, with an expected enterprise adoption
rate to reach over 70% in 2016,
it has become clear organizations are making DBaaS a priority for
their business plans.
- According to MarketsandMarkets, the “adoption is expected to grow steadily and shall have a persuasive existence across all the major verticals. Improved customer experience at lower cost, on a 'pay as you go' revenue model, will be the major 'pull' factor.”
- By 2017, the DaaS market share will
increase to 29%, “becoming the most important form of private cloud” as Oracle Research states in a recent article.
As the migration to DBaaS becomes a “must have” for every enterprise that wants to stay ahead of the game, so is having the right skills to implement it within your organization to guarantee optimal results.
skills are needed to gain good results when migrating to DBaaS?
Database administrators still need to be trained in core administration skills when moving to the Oracle Cloud. They will need to understand:
- The overall architecture of the Oracle Database Cloud,
- How to migrate to the cloud,
- How to create an administer an instance,
- How to configure connections,
- How to back up and recover databases in the cloud,
- How to use Cloud DBA tools.
Database Administrators can struggle when transitioning to the Cloud when:
- They are unfamiliar with overall capabilities provided,
- They are not familiar with Cloud DBA Tools,
- They don't know how to administer Oracle Database Cloud security measures,
- They cannot
maximize performance and scale the database environment,
Transitioning to the Cloud - a "Challenging Mission" - Not Anymore!
DBaaS represents a paradigm shift in IT, from merely
“keeping the system up & running” to higher tuning and development work –
helping customers move their businesses forward.
This type of role can be more rewarding and provides new opportunities. Moving to the Oracle Cloud requires new skills to fully understand all that is needed when performing Oracle Database administrator tasks in the Cloud.

We all live in a fast paced world where business and life happens at a record pace.
Balancing work, family and having a social life all fight for our time and energy, leaving even less time for upgrading our professional skill set.
Logically, this would mean online learning makes the most sense, as it can be experienced from the comfort of your home and/or office.
Online learning gives you the freedom to learn at your own pace.
Educational institutions and training organizations have all identified this need for flexible learning in our modern, fast-paced and digitally connected world. There are various ways to take training courses online to meet this need, but many still hesitate to learn this way.
Why is this?
Let's take a look at the top 5 reasons people avoid digital learning.
1. Online learning makes me feel disconnected.
Many feel that learning from your home or office can make you feel isolated or disconnected in an online course. The view is that the comfort of a classroom environment is missing. In reality, this isn't the case, as learning platforms used today can be highly interactive. You can easily connect with other students, faculty and other support resources. As long as you're committed to attending online sessions and participating in the discussions, you can have a very connected learning experience, from the comfort of anywhere with an internet connection.
2. It doesn't fit my learning style.
This mindset is common, as people expect the learning environment to feel a certain way and conform to a set of rules. Many online training courses are not static; they are fluid and combine many different opportunities to learn. Interactive lectures, case studies and hands-on demonstrations are incorporated into many online courses to work with various learning styles.
3. Instructors are not available for help.
This can apply during a class if you don't feel confident to "raise your hand" or engage in hands-on practice labs. It's important to remember that online courses tend to be smaller than the average university lecture hall, inviting more interactivity. Interactive online tools give you access to student support groups, experts and information; in reality, you have tons of expert support that's available whenever you need it!
4. It's difficult to stay motivated.
How do you stay motivated to keep learning? The key is picking the right course and the right learning platform. Pick a relevant course which teaches you the skills you're looking to develop and can immediately utilize in your daily job. Being able to see the real-world applications right away will keep you motivated.
5. I don't have the right technology and connections to learn online.
There are system and bandwidth requirements that will help you get the most out of an online course. The best way to tackle this is working with your chosen learning provider before beginning the course. Getting the right infrastructure will help you get the most out of your courses.
Now that we've identified some of the common reasons people avoid digital learning to grow their skill set, let's take a look at some of the key benefits you can experience by learning online.
- Easy access from your home or office
- No geographic restrictions
- 24/7 access to technology experts
- Learn on your own time, at your own pace
- Eliminate costly and time-consuming travel to learning centers
Those in the IT industry know that without constant skills upgrading, the rapid pace of development in the industry will leave them behind.
Give online learning a try - you just may be surprised at the results!

A recent Gartner survey revealed that Software as a Service (SaaS) deployments are becoming "mission critical" for organizations around the world.
One rationale for migrating to SaaS is the reduction in deployment time. This allows an organization to quickly realize the benefits of the transition. When implementing a cloud application, however, businesses can easily overlook the skills staff need to execute a successful migration.
Technical professionals responsible for configuring, integrating and administering an Oracle Cloud application need to get up to speed quickly to ensure that business requirements are met.
As with any new application, business users, who will be regularly working with a cloud application, need to learn how to access and use the application to perform their jobs.
And when product updates are made to your cloud application your team needs access to the latest product information, so they can readily leverage the new features and functionality.
