How Oracle Certification Helped Me

“My technical certifications across the Oracle Core Technologies and Oracle Cloud Platform helped me to gain a deep understanding of solution components, architecting for maximum performance, availability, security and automation.  This allows me to bring value to my business by lower TCO and greater ROI across the solution stack”

How it all started

My training started back in 1999 on Oracle 8i Administration!  Since then I have completed OCP in Oracle 8i, 9i, 10g,11g and 12c becoming an Oracle Certified Master (OCM) in 2009.  Now at Oracle Open World this year I became one of the 1st people to achieve the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure 2019 Architect Professional credential!

Gaining hands-on experience and learning one database that runs across all platforms; SUN Solaris, IBM AIX, HP-UX, Redhat Linux, Suse Linux and Micro Soft Windows, supporting32-bit and 64-bit Operating Systems were always especially interesting for me.

I have attended many other training classes too; Completing Managing Oracle 9i and then 10g on Linux, Real Application Clusters (RAC) in Oracle 10g, 11g and 12c, and Oracle Data Guard (DG).   Installing and configuring "High Availability" environments for critical financial services were also important skills for me to develop.

Learning + Certification = Professional Credibility

My real-time experience and certifications recently gained me recognition as qualifying (and being selected!) for a major contract as an Oracle Architect.   Three of the required skills they were searching for were:

  • Holds an Oracle Certified Master (OCM) credential.
  • Holds an Oracle Certified Expert (OCE) credential.
  • Holds an Oracle Certified Maximum Availability Architecture Expert (MAA) credential

The Definition of an OCM

o   From Wikipedia: “recognizes the highest level of demonstrated skills, knowledge and proven abilities. OCMs are equipped to answer the most difficult questions and solve the most complex problems. The Oracle Certified Master certification validates a candidate's abilities through passing rigorous performance-based exams. The certification typically builds upon the fundamental skills of the OCA and the more advanced skills of the OCP.”
