Oracle University has updated and improved the Oracle Knowledge Curriculum.
The curriculum development team routinely assesses the impact new product releases have on courses, prioritizing which courses should be updated first. This often results in courses with multiple release levels being listed on the Oracle University website.
This may lead you to wonder whether a particular course will be appropriate for the product release level you have installed. Furthermore, as the curriculum evolves, course names and learning paths may also change and generate some confusion about which training you should attend.
We'll Help You Choose the Right Training Courses
The following guide is intended to help you choose the right training courses, whether you are new to Oracle Knowledge or have previously attended training and would like to continue on to the next course.
The Oracle University website contains complete course descriptions, learning paths and schedules. This post is designed to give you insight to help you make the right choices when registering for courses.
Oracle Knowledge is currently on release 8.5.1. The majority of the Oracle Knowledge training curriculum has been updated based on release 8.5. With the exception of two courses, the entire 8.5 curriculum is appropriate for customers running release 8.2 or above.
The two courses that should be aligned with the 8.2 product release are Interpreting Oracle Knowledge Analytics Rel 8.2 and Oracle Knowledge Technical Architecture and Config Rel. 8.2.
Interpreting Oracle Knowledge Analytics
The Oracle Knowledge 8.2 analytics product leveraged a third party tool to query the database. This tool was replaced by Oracle Business Intelligence in release 8.5, resulting in some major changes to the way data is accessed.
A revised course, Oracle Knowledge Analytics Rel 8.5, was released in October 2013. This course is appropriate for customers running version 8.5 or later. All future public classes will cover the latest version of the course.
Classes covering the older version of the product will be conducted on a per request basis or private event only.
Oracle Knowledge Technical Architecture and Configuration Rel 8.2
There were some significant changes to the underlying architecture of the Oracle Knowledge product in release 8.5. These changes are reflected in the new Technical Architecture class, which expanded from 3 days to 5.
Because customers typically attend this class early in their deployments, Oracle University will only be running the Oracle Knowledge Technical Architecture and Configuration Rel 8.5 class on its public schedule. Additional schedules can be found for both Classroom Training and Live Virtual Class training in other regions.
Please check your local schedule for locations and dates. Customers running earlier versions of the software and needing this training should consult with an Oracle University Sales Representative before registering for class.
