No doubt about it: there’s a mind-bending amount to learn about all the Oracle Database 12c and Oracle Database 18c new features that are now being released at regular intervals.
With the Oracle Database New Features Learning Subscription there’s a convenient way to take the training you need to keep up with the release updates.
We spoke with experts from Oracle University about the value of this training subscription for Oracle Database customers who want to learn how to utilize these new features. Together, these three experts have an astounding 90 years of combined experience with Oracle education!
The learning subscription will cover new features for both Oracle Database 18c and Oracle Database 12c. Can you tell us a bit about that?
JG: Oracle Database 18c is the most recent version of the Oracle Database server and introduces a new release cycle. Each calendar year will have a release based on the year, with four quarterly release updates. Those updates will also have revisions created to patch the two most recent quarterly updates. Can you give some examples of new features covered in this Oracle Database New Features Learning Subscription?
What issue(s) can a customer solve by signing up for this learning subscription?
FF: Outdated knowledge can hamper the potential productivity that can be gained by using the new features in a new release. It's quite often that we see customers using the new release of the database just as they had in the past, just because they haven’t learned about new, better and easier ways to get things done.
“Experienced DBAs don't need to learn everything starting from scratch again when Oracle launches a new release of the product. They just need to find out what's new in that release.”
How will customers use this learning subscription?
JG: Customers will use the learning subscription to learn new features of either Oracle Database 18c or Oracle Database 12c. The learning subscription is a good solution for those who plan to upgrade soon or have recently upgraded.
RS: The learning subscription is organized into separate Learning Paths – each specifically designed for DBAs, advanced DBAs, and systems integrators who are experienced with:
Each learning path contains suitable training to bring you up-to-date and current with the latest available database release. The learning subscription is structured such that it will continue to be updated with new content as it becomes available.
FF: Experienced DBAs don't need to learn everything starting from scratch again when Oracle launches a new release of the product. They just need to find out what's new in that release. Some of the new features might be used immediately in the production system for security, productivity, simplicity, and so on. The learning subscription content will include information on upcoming new features, and DBAs need to know about them so they can plan for them. Now that Oracle is launching new database releases twice per year, the Oracle Database New Features Learning Subscription will keep subscribers up-to-date, all the time.
Why did you develop this learning subscription for customers?
FF: The Oracle Database New Features Learning Subscription gives access to any new features updates for a whole year, which mean the subscriber can learn about new features that might be useful to their system anytime during the year and keep their knowledge up-to-date.
JG: Yes, the new release cycle for Oracle Database requires more continuous learning and the subscription facilitates this very nicely.
RS: Our rationale is two-fold. First, we wanted to release a learning subscription focused on providing a skills-upgrade training path. Second, with Oracle’s new yearly product release cycle, a learning subscription makes it easier for customers to keep abreast of incremental changes as they become available.
