Increased Demand for Oracle Skill Sets

Guest Author

A friend recently pointed me to an article
related to the Top 10 skill sets for job opportunities in his area.
Interestingly - nearly HALF were based around Oracle technologies.

great to hear that jobs continue to be available; however - the
scarcity of some of these jobs (including tech-related jobs) reminds me of the
difference that certification can make in your job search.
Certification can be a relatively quick way to differentiate yourself,
and along with other important skills (communication skills,
problem-solving skills, etc.) and experience - can make the difference
in either getting a job or being passed over.

As you
prepare for your certification through focused study, practice, and
training, you will increase your knowledge and expand your skill set; an investment in yourself that can have a very quick payback.

Oracle offers a variety of certifications in many technical areas - including many of those mentioned in the article. Visit certification.oracle.com to find out more.

Are you sure the article referred shows Oracle skill demands is increasing?

Last year 900 jobs and this year 620. While to me, it seems a drastic decrease in Oracle DBMS jobs by over 30%.

Not sure if I am missing something here

Yes, there was a decrease in DBMS job demand, but other Oracle Technologies saw an increase - such as SQL and Java.

Agree that demand for oracle skill sets are getting increased.

However, I don't see the information regarding launch of new certifications. Like I am interested to pursue OCP in Solaris System Administrator. But the only available certification is "Oracle Certified Professional, Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator".

Where as Oracle has already launched Solaris 11 version last year in month of November 2010. But there is no certification available for this version.

    Can you please advise?

Thank you for your interest in Oracle Certification. It does take some time for certifications to be developed after new products are released. First training has to be released and adopted, certification comes next. Stay tuned for announcements about Solaris 11 certifications. You should subscribe to this blog to receive up-to-date information on the Oracle Certification program.

Which certification you pursue depends largely on where your skills and interests lie. There are over 100 Oracle Certifications available. You should start by having a look at our website certification.oracle.com. If you select the 'Certifications' tab at the top of the page and then 'ALL CERTIFICATIONS' you will be able to see all available certifications. Review the requirements and exam topics for the ones that you are interested in to see what direction you think you'd like to go. You should also spend some time researching the demand for certain skills/job roles in your region.

I a working as a ORACLE DBA(OCA certified) for the past 2.5 yrs, overall experience is also 2.5 yrs. I am good knowledge in DBA activities and RAC environment. I am looking for oracle consultant and implementation based jobs, because i heard that would allow me to get overseas opportunity and good exposure in latest oracle products. I am utterly confused whether to stick on to Core DBA(currently working) or to update my skill set to Oracle Apps or Fusion Middleware products like SOA.So please suggest the path that would help me to set a good career.

    Many thanks in advance.

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, January 8, 2013

This would also be a great question to ask on our Certification Forum. You can find the link in the post above. APEX is under Database.

I am a graduate in IT, CCNA and .NET certified, I want to know which Oracle certification is best for me, if i want to maintain stability in Networking as well Database.

I have done little R&D and I think that Oracle Datawarehousing and CCIE in Storage Networking will be beneficial for me(Ofcos considering Networking certification as an add-on). Will my assumption pay me good in overseas for a long-run? How should I think in growing beyond after these certifications. If I am not wrong, then please guide me through the certification path for the same in Oracle.

If I am wrong then guide me through the path for good package and overseas opportunities.

    Thanks and Regards.
