Getting Started - Creating a Property Graph on Oracle Database

Jean Ihm
Product Manager, Oracle Spatial and Graph

Here’s a post for those of you who are newbies, with steps to get started and create your first property graph in Oracle Database.

If you’ve never touched a property graph before, it can be intimidating to get started.  Arthur Dayton of Vlamis Software Solutions has put together a helpful example here that assumes you don’t know anything about graphs.

See Arthur’s blog post here.

Step by step, Arthur walks through

  • taking employee data from standard relational HR tables
  • loading it into Oracle’s property graph model using Java
  • visualizing connections and relationships in the data with Cytoscape, and
  • running graph analysis with PGQL queries

With this simple example, you’ll start to see the power of graphs to analyze relationships in your data in ways that relational queries can’t.

(By the way, if you’d like to see Arthur present a hands on lab on this topic, he’ll be at the Analytics and Data Summit on March 20-22 at Oracle headquarters. Check it out at http://analyticsanddatasummit.org/ .)

Thanks Arthur for this helpful post!
