Spatial Studio 21.1 is now available.
This release of Spatial Studio introduces several new features and enhancements to help users with their spatial analyses. These include CSV and KML uploads, Place Search, and improved Time Slider performance in map visualizations. Here is a summary of the features:
CSV File Upload
When creating a new dataset by uploading from a file, you can now choose CSV formatted files that contain addresses or latitude/longitude data. The CSV file upload process works the same way as uploading GeoJSON, Shapefiles, or Excel spreadsheet files. You can preview the content of the CSV file and change the column type and name before committing the upload. The result of the upload is a new table, and a new dataset based on the table.
KML File Upload
You can now upload a KML file, which is a format based on XML for storing geographic data and associated content and is an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard. KML is often used to share data over the Internet for visualization. You can also upload a KMZ file, which is a zipped KML file.
A KML file may have zero, one, or many folders. In this release, nested folders are not supported, so folders must all be at the root level. One folder is uploaded into one database table. This folder may only have one type of geometry. If there are no folders, then all valid Placemarks are also uploaded into one database table.
KML file upload details will be documented in an upcoming blog.
Search by place name
You can now search by place name on a map visualization. A new search icon has been added to the toolbar of the map visualization, where you enter an address or the name of a place. The input field supports type-ahead search, so that as you type in the search string, a list of candidates will be displayed and continuously refined as more characters are entered. This screenshot shows a place search where the user entered “Rome, Italy” and Spatial Studio was able to quickly pan and zoom the map to the correct location.
Improved Time Slider Performance
A time slider was added in the last release, which allows a user to view change over time on a map. There were some performance issues when using the time slider with large datasets, which have now been fixed. Time slider filtering performance for large datasets has been dramatically improved, so you can see change in real time.
