Konnichiwa to Oracle OpenWorld Tokyo 2012!

A little rain or a lot of rain couldn’t get in the way of hosting yet another successful Oracle OpenWorld Tokyo. Last week marked the beginning of this long awaited event which kicked-off right away as 220 Oracle partners from around the world attended the OPN Forum. There, central topics such as Oracle’s global alliance strategy and Oracle’s overall partner strategy were discussed. This event was followed by the Alliances and Channels Knowledge Session which included an ISV Round Table led by our very own Oracle President, Mark Hurd. Throughout the week partners were able to take in keynotes from top Oracle Executives; check out Mark Hurd’s keynote below:

Thursday wouldn’t have been complete without a roundtable of its own - the Partner Executive Roundtable - which was well attended by the dynamic companies that are helping to grow Japan’s booming market. As partners zipped through the Exhibition Hall, many took some time to learn more about the OPN program at large by visiting our OPN booth, and gained a deeper understanding of what it means to ‘Get Specialized’. Throughout the week, over 180 partners joined Oracle’s “Test Fest” which enabled partners to take part in complimentary certification exams for Specialization. We are happy to announce that 49 partners passed!

After adding another victorious Oracle OpenWorld Tokyo to our growing list of events, OPN now anxiously awaits the arrival of Oracle OpenWorld 2012. The only question is… how ready are you?

 See you in San Francisco,

Partners, Start your Engines

Hello speed racer - OPN here to inform you that in case you missed it, our ISV Focused PartnerCast took place last week in Oracle's Redwood Shores studio. Without a roadblock in site, Oracle's key drivers discussed topics like Optimized and Oracle's Cloud offerings; even OPN partner MSC took it to the next level by stopping by to share with us their first hand experience with the Oracle Exastack Optimized program.

By stepping into Oracle's "Motor Speedway", better known as the Exastack lab, MSC was able to fine tune, test and optimize their application on Oracle Exadata, as well as gain outstanding expertise on several technical areas such as optimizing multithreaded applications and database tuning. By optimizing their solution, MSC has "decreased their deployment time and saw a 30 percent performance improvement in database." Sounds like someone's gearing up for an "Oracle Indy 500."

By achieving Oracle Exadata Optimized status, MSC is putting performance in the driver's seat, and their customers at the front of the race by delivering a solution that is tuned for performance, scalability and reliability. So go ahead and let the Oracle Exastack Optimized pit crew take you to the finish line. Learn how to go from 0-60 by watching MSC's segment of the ISV Focused PartnerCast below.

“Tis the Season to Be Jolly”

It is the most wonderful time of the year! A time where children are on their best behavior for Santa, co-workers are on their best behavior after the office holiday party, and we have been on our best behavior to be able to bring you our year end wrap-up of all things OPN.

2011 was filled with plenty to be jolly about; especially, the fact that ten of our partners achieved Diamond level status (press release) in the OPN Specialized Program. These partners include Accenture, Capgemini, CSC, Deloitte, IBM, Infosys, PwC, Tata Consultancy Service Ltd., Wipro and Fujitsu. As early adopters, these savvy companies know exactly what it is they want this holiday season, and that is to be preferred by their customers.

2011 just kept getting merrier as we launched the OPN Incentive Rebate Program for partners selling to a broad customer base. VARs have been able to maximize and boost their retained profit margins by going to market with Oracle.

Add the launch of Oracle Exastack Program for ISVs and OEMs, and you've got another reason to celebrate this season with cheer. With over 150 partners now at Oracle Ready status, the Oracle Exastack Program has helped enable partners to deliver increased performance, accelerating innovation and delivering superior value to customers.

Jingle bells were ringing all the way as the Oracle Database Appliance took center stage as this year's most compelling channel hardware solution. Built on a platform that scales as a customer's business grows, this program sits squarely beneath a fourth rack of Oracle Exadata, making it comparable to a holiday miracle.

Adding a bit more cinnamon to your apple cider, Oracle's recent recognition by CRN Magazine as one of " The Top 25 Best Companies to Partner With," goes to show that the proof is always in the proverbial pudding. The November issue highlights Oracle's commitment to partners, recruitment strategy, and plans on how to grow its network of partners over the next year.

"Oracle is moving from a direct sales-dominated database software maker to a partner-engaged maker of innovative hardware/software-engineered systems that encompass applications, middleware, storage, and servers," commented Judson Althoff, SVP of WWA&C and Embedded Sales. Simply put, there is no better time to become an Oracle partner than right now.

New Year's Resolutions

Happy New Year! It is hard to believe it is already the 3rd week of the new year. There is a lot to look forward to with Oracle PartnerNetwork Specialized in 2011 but we would be remiss to not share with you a few things we never got around to telling you about in 2010. Our New Years resolution? To give you the latest information you need on OPN Specialized through this blog. What's yours?

Without further adieu - drum roll please - here are the 2 blogs we meant to write in 2010:

Blog #1:
Looking back ....and FORWARD!

Time to regroup, everyone! We mentioned in our FY11 Partner Kickoff Recap that we were working on getting a FAQ completed to provide all the answers to the questions you asked us during the live chat session. Well, wait no more! Our specialists reviewed your questions and here you have the answers. Looking for more details on any of the topics? We have the answer for that too - contact your local Partner Business Center for personalized assistance or ping us on the OPN LinkedIn, Facebook , Twitter & Mix pages. Someone's always there to pick up your comments.

Don't forget that the FY11 Partner Kickoff videos are still available on demand. So check out the videos and YES, make note of further questions you may have for us. We'll be ready to answer them all LIVE at the upcoming PartnerCast on February 2nd at 9:00 AM PT.

Talk with you during PartnerCast,
The OPN Communications Team

Blog#2:
How Do You Roll?

California Roll? Dragon Roll? HyperRoll? While the first 2 are delicious with soy sauce we think the third is best served with a side of Essbase. Oracle has made a lot of acquisitions over the past couple of years with HyperRoll and AmberPoint being just a few of them. Listen in as Judson talks about how you can leverage these 2 acquisitions:

Now get rollin' and join the Hyperion Knowledge Zone and Oracle Enterprise Manager Knowledge Zone; download the AmberPoint playbook and HyperRoll playbook and don't forget to spice things up with a side of wasabi.

Good selling,

Week 39: Final VAD Smackdown Score - 1:1

While the Giants have secured a division title for the National League West, this year's OPN Forum couldn't determine a winner of the first ever "VAD Smackdown". Two of Oracle's largest global VADs - Arrow and Avnet -joined Judson on stage for the first ever "VAD Smackdown" during the Global Partner Welcome Keynote; and while they had a little fun smacking each other down, they are serious about elevating their partners.

Both spoke about their unyielding focus on moving you up the ranks to Get Specialized. They also took a few minutes to share their unique partner value propositions. Avnet's Mike Hurst, VP, Global Supplier Business Executive, stressed the importance of Avnet's SolutionsPath methodology which provides training, tools and demand generation to help partners find growth opportunities and sell a full suite of solutions. Tom Colleary, who heads up Oracle software sales for Arrow, highlighted Arrow partners' tremendous growth in software sales and his plans for taking that success to its hardware partners. At the end of it all, the score remained tied leaving us anticipating what next year's OPN Forum will bring.

We hope you all got the opportunity to attend the Arrow or Avnet Special Interest Group sessions. If not download some of their collateral here and listen as they tell us their value prop in their own words:

We will be sharing more from the Forum soon,
