Good morning, folks! Day one of OPN Central @ OpenWorld is behind us and we’re already on to number two. From yesterday’s OPN keynote to the Product Executive Update to the OPN AfterDark Reception, we had an exhilarating, marathon of a day. In case any of you missed it, here’s a quick look at some highlights from Sunday.
- During the OPN Keynote, SVP Rich Geraffo hosted CEOs Mark Hurd & Safra Catz, as well as Oracle Team USA aerobatic pilot Sean D. Tucker! Rich also spoke with a panel of A&C leaders around Oracle’s cloud strategy, cloud program, Oracle on Oracle and OPN Program and Enablement program. We also witnessed the unveiling of OPN Cloud Connection – a new community where partners can engage and explore the Oracle Cloud on an entirely new level.
- The OPN Product Executive Update featured EVPs Thomas Kurian & John Fowler, who took a deep dive into Oracle Database 12c In-Memory, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS and Oracle’s overall cloud strategy. Fowler ended the session by reaffirming Oracle’s commitment to sustaining hardware investments is crucial to its platform strategy.
- We heard from partner Renee James of Intel during the OpenWorld Welcome keynote. As you’ve probably seen all over Twitter, Renee made the statement that half of enterprises will operate in public/private hybrid cloud modes, and that the cost point of private clouds is growing competitive with public clouds. Larry then took the stage, conveying his main message about the cloud, the major upgrades to Oracle’s cloud platform in 2014 and that the effort stems from a culmination of a mission that started 30 years ago.
- We concluded Sunday with the OPN AfterDark Reception in the Metreon. It was a beautiful night in San Francisco and people were able to enjoy the terrace overlooking Oracle Plaza. Maybe it was the weather, maybe not, but we had our biggest turnout ever – nearly 1,500 people in attendance! Sean D. Tucker was a big part of the event; the aerobatic pilot signed about 250 Team Oracle caps for folks. We also had a live drawing for a chance to win a free flight with Sean D. Tucker this week. Congratulations again to our winner Pablo of Avnet Inc. – we hope you have a blast on Wednesday!
