Cloud is Everywhere

Earlier this year, International Data Corporation (IDC) released a report entitled Worldwide Semiannual Public Cloud Services Spending Guide that gave a snapshot of where global cloud market currently stands—and where it’s headed. The facts? The worldwide cloud market will grow at six times the rate of overall IT spending, doubling in size by 2019 to an estimated US$141 billion.

For those of us working at major IT vendors, this comes as no surprise. Every day, I’m talking with people at Oracle who are building new cloud products, working with customers to design cloud solutions that work, and writing about what a huge opportunity the cloud presents for modernizing business process.

The adoption of the cloud is not limited to certain regions. We have discovered that creative uses of enterprise cloud solutions are not limited by geography. The cloud is indeed everywhere. To support this idea, we have collected a list of the Oracle Cloud customer stories we’ve published over the past year – in Oracle Profit and via Forbes’ OracleVoice- and compiled a special issue of Profit, “Cloud WorldWide.”

This collection of stories is not just an opportunity to show the depth and scale of Oracle’s cloud business (although I think it also accomplishes that goal). It demonstrates that the terms enterprise IT and the cloud are becoming synonymous; that the barriers that were predicted to limit the growth of cloud computing are falling away; and that there is no market that can’t reap the benefits of the cloud.

As our partner community continues to accelerate their Oracle Cloud business, this special edition demonstrates how our customers are also in the midst of transforming and accelerating their business to the cloud. You’ll see that there are vast opportunities to deliver cloud solutions and that cloud truly is growing on a global scale.

As a side note: over the years, we’ve done a handful of special issues, most notably the annual Oracle OpenWorld, JD Edwards, and OPN Specialized Partner supplements. This digital-only cloud special edition marks an expansion of these periodic special packages. I hope you enjoy this special edition.
