We’re Getting Ready for Oracle OpenWorld 2012. Are You?

Save US$800 with Super Saver registration now
By Karen Shamban

While you’ve been enjoying the holidays and celebrating the New Year, the Oracle OpenWorld team has been busy working on this year’s conference. Our goal is to give you everything you’ve come to expect from Oracle OpenWorld─and much more.

Yes, there will be keynotes, sessions, demos, and hands-on labs. Thousands of them. There will be hundreds of exhibitors showing the latest Oracle technologies and applications. And there will be networking opportunities─as many of them as you can cram into the five days of the conference. Plus many new things, some of which even we don’t know about yet.

Here’s what you can do to start getting ready for Oracle OpenWorld 2012:

  • Register now for less─save US$800 through March 30 with Super Saver registration. And don’t forget to remind your colleagues and friends about this savings opportunity.
  • Share your Oracle expertise with other attendees by leading a session. The Call for Papers (CFP) will run from March 14 - April 9; check back with this blog and the Oracle OpenWorld website for the CFP launch.
  • Strut your company’s stuff in front of more than 45,000 attendees by becoming an exhibitor at Oracle OpenWorld.

If there are topics you’d like to see covered in this blog, leave your suggestions in the Comments area, and thanks.

We look forward to posting more frequently as we get closer to the September 30 – October 4th event. So watch this space …

The OpenWorld website says CFP is open until April 9, not March 19. Can you confirm the date that CFP closes?

Hi Wayne - Correction: the CFP will open on March 14th and close on April 9th. The OpenWorld website has been updated with CFP information: http://www.oracle.com/openworld/index.html

Hi Karen,

I´m a kind of lost looking for the Conference Content. Could you please help me with that? I´m gonna publish it to all my co-workers.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Alessandra - if you're looking for specific details on content for technical sessions, that information is several months away from being published, as the Call for Papers is still open. Once that closes in early April, the content review teams have a lot of work to do to narrow down from the thousands of abstracts they receive. There is information on the content Tracks already published - you'll find that at: http://www.oracle.com/openworld/learn/streams/index.html

Hope this answers your question.

Excited to be returning to Oracle World! I've submitted to presentation proposals so hopefully will get to speak again.

I don't see the guest pass for non-attendees. My wife always enjoys attending a few of the group sessions. is that not offered anymore?

Hi Steven - I'm not entirely sure what you're referring to as a Guest Pass. There's a Guest Package listed at: http://www.oracle.com/openworld/register/add-ons/index.html#tab. Otherwise, perhaps you're talking about the Discover pass, which is described at: http://www.oracle.com/openworld/register/packages/index.html#tab.

Hope this clarifies for you - if not, please provide me with more detail on what you're looking for.

Any idea when the entertainment for the Oracle Appreciation Event will be announced? I'm trying to make plans with my wife and who'll be there makes a big difference in whether or not she attends.

In reference to the question about the entertainment for the Oracle Appreciation Event, you'll have to keep checking the Oracle.com/openworld site for information. We do not have any detail right now on when this announcement will be made. Thanks for your interest!

When will the exhibit hours be available?

Exhibit Hall hours should be posted by the end of May, so check back by the end of the month.

I'm having problems finding a hotel room. None of the hotels that are on the Oracle Hotel list have rooms available for Saturday thru Thursday and only one at $450 per night from Sunday thru Thursday. Should we start canceling our registration if we can't find a place in the area?

There aren't any available on most of travel sites either... this is the first time I've had that happen when heading to OOW.

I just talked to the conference team, and they recommend that if you're having trouble finding a hotel room, you should contact the Registration and Housing help desk for assistance.

Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Pacific time) at:

U.S. and Canada: 1.866.382.7147

Registration: OpenWorldReg@gpj.com
Housing: OpenWorldHousing@gpj.com

Any announcement about the entertainment for the appreciation event yet ?

Sorry, that information is still being kept under wraps ... even from me! But all registered attendees of an Oracle conference the week of September 29 to October 5 can have access to the Oracle Music Festival. Check it out! http://www.oracle.com/events/us/en/music-festival/index.html?ssSourceSiteId=openworld
