User Groups Help Crack the Glass Ceiling

Opinions on whether the glass ceiling still exists today vary widely, but Patricia Dues (pictured left), board member of the Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG) and an Oracle ACE, has advice for those who may be bumping up against a glass ceiling: join a user group.
"User groups give you the opportunity to be noticed—to participate in an active leadership role that maybe you haven't been able to take in your own organization," says Dues, enterprise program manager for the City of Las Vegas. "You may be a great source of information sitting in your office, but nobody knows it. When you start participating in a user group, you're presenting papers, you're writing stories—things that can't help but get you known in the community."
