The Value of Quality Networking at Oracle OpenWorld

Networking is a core element of belonging to a professional user group, which is why user groups flock to Oracle OpenWorld, one of the greatest venues for Oracle customers to make valuable connections, obtain information and share information with peers who have similar challenges and interests.

There are innumerable ways to connect with new people at the conference, including the many Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings, the Geographic (Geo) meetings, targeted educational sessions, social events and casual gatherings, the exhibit hall, etc. While there are many networking opportunities available at your fingertips at OpenWorld, some people are better at networking than others. For those who do not have the natural gift of gab, here are some conversation starters to encourage dialogue. Remember, open-ended questions usually work the best. Try these:

  • What Oracle products are you using?
  • How did you get involved in working with Oracle Apps?
  • What are you looking to gain / accomplish from OpenWorld this year?
  • Are there any sessions you're particularly looking forward to?
  • What are you hoping to learn from that particular session?
  • How would that help you in your job?
  • When could I follow up with you by phone or email after the conference to find out how your project turned out?

OPN Central @ OpenWorld: What’s in it for you?

This year, Oracle invites you to discover the innovation and learning we’ve packed into Oracle OpenWorld. From technology sessions & labs hosted by industry experts and Oracle executives, to partner & exhibitor sessions, we’ve broken down barriers to get you to the source of information, faster.

With that, we bring you OPN Central @ OpenWorld.

Conference Week Activities

Oracle OpenWorld takes place in San Francisco October 25 – 29. To show our commitment to our partners, Oracle has dedicated Sunday, October 25 to the Oracle PartnerNetwork community. On Sunday afternoon, partners can attend OPN General Sessions that will consist of three separate sessions catering specifically to SI, ISV, and VAR audiences. On Sunday evening, the famed OPN AfterDark Reception is back and open to all partners with a conference badge; no separate registration necessary.

The OPN Lounge will be open during conference week and home to the majority of OPN Central activities. Activities include OPN In Focus sessions – where partners can uncover the tools and resources needed to run a successful business. In addition, partners have a chance to delve into social media consultations at our Social Media Rally Station. This is an opportunity to discover your company’s “social clout” and determine ways to build a stronger online presence. Between your sessions and the conference hustle and bustle, relax in the OPN Lounge and network with members of the OPN Enablement team as well as your peers.

Also located in the OPN Lounge is the brand new ISV Cloud BarAsk the Experts! Have all of your technical questions answers & your cloud strategy evaluated by our panel of experts throughout the conference week. In addition to the OPN Lounge, Experts will be in Moscone West, the Marriott Marquis and the OPN AfterDark Reception.

Test Fest @ OPN Central is also back for the fifth year in a row and takes place at the Westin St. Francis Hotel. Partners are encouraged to register for an opportunity to earn their Certified Specialist accreditation through one of ten session exams!

25 Ways to Make the Most of User Group Sunday

Looking to connect with peers who live and work near you or who share similar niche interests? Don’t miss the dozens of user group meetings on Sunday, October 25, at Oracle OpenWorld 2015.

In recognition of the OAUG’s 25th anniversary, here are 25 tips on how to get the most out of this major networking day.

1. Come early. You have a better chance of grabbing a great seat and getting a head start on introductions.

2. Stay late. There are always opportunities for mingling with peers and experts after and between sessions.

3. Bring plenty of business cards. Make it easy for your new acquaintances to stay in touch after the conference.

4. Come with three questions on the topic being presented. Ask yourself exactly what you would like to learn about the covered topic beforehand, and be sure those three questions are answered.

5. Share something you’ve learned. Effective networking is fueled by the give-and-take of information and knowledge.

6. Hydrate. Seriously. It keeps you energized.
