Recently, Oracle HCM customer Marriot International garnered some press for rolling out a new mobile website allowing their job seekers to easily apply for positions via their mobile devices. A Washington Post article had this say:
?With its new offering, Marriott is hoping to position itself at the leading edge of what it expects will be a major transformation in the way talent acquisition takes place. In particular, the Bethesda-based hospitality giant hopes it will give the company an advantage in luring millennial generation employees, who are expected to make up 46 percent of the workforce by 2020.?
Oracle HCM's recruiting solutions are helping Marriott capitalize on a recruiting trend that has been building momentum over the last few years. In a 2013 survey, job posting aggregator SimplyHired found that 70% of all candidates use their mobile devices to search for jobs, including 65% of those already employed. They also found that 32% of candidates have already applied for jobs from their mobile devices. The other big name in job posting aggregation, Indeed found similar trends as they reported that 1/3 of their traffic now comes from mobile devices.
Increasingly, organizations have to decide if enabling their candidates to apply for jobs on mobile devices is a priority for them. For those that do not however, they will inevitably be limiting the amount of successful applications they receive for their open positions, especially among the millennial generation and in developing nations where for many, mobile devices are their only means of getting online.
Alongside with the growth of mobile apply options, the use of online social profiles as a way to submit a candidate's information is likely to grow as well. Most people don't have their resume stored on their smart phones or tablets, and manually typing it in is not practical. As a result, when applying for jobs on these devices, more and more people will begin using their social profiles, such as a LinkedIn profile, as their resume. Have you updated your profile lately?
