Oracle has built a Generation 2 Cloud for the enterprise that helps leading organizations in every industry solve their most challenging business and technology problems with consistently high performance, solid reliability, and unique compatibility with on-premises solutions. At Oracle OpenWorld last year, we committed to make our cloud platform available in all of the major geographies where our customers operate. This month, we’ve made big progress toward that goal with the general availability of four new cloud regions across four key geographies. Following on the launches that we already completed this year in Toronto, Tokyo, and Seoul, we just launched a region in Mumbai, India and will shortly be going live in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Sydney, Australia; and Zurich, Switzerland.
Access to Services
We’re excited for our customers who will now be able to use some of the most advanced enterprise cloud offerings available today. Our new regions give them access to the unique self-driving Oracle Autonomous Database for transactional and analytics workloads, the raw performance of our industry-leading bare metal and Exadata cloud instances, and blazing-fast local and remote SSD storage options. Beyond these infrastructure offerings, our newly announced Oracle Functions serverless computing service lets customers automate their deployments with a wide range of industry-standard infrastructure-as-code platforms, including Terraform, Ansible, Chef, and Puppet, along with a range of higher-level services, including our AI/ML, analytics, IoT, and mobile suites to accelerate innovative application development.
For all these regions, our high-speed global network enables enterprises to move data within our worldwide network of cloud regions. And, our FastConnect dedicated private line network service enables them to easily connect their own data centers to our cloud.
These new geographies are busy markets for Oracle, with wide use of on-premises and cloud technologies. We expect the local availability of Oracle Cloud regions to drive greater usage by eliminating data residency and latency issues.

Federal Bank is one of India’s fastest-growing mid-size banks. It has a customer base of over 8 million customers and handles almost 15 percent of India’s inbound overseas remittances. With more than 1200 branches, 1600 ATMs, and more than 11,000 employees, this USD $1.5 billion bank is in the midst of a massive digital transformation. It has increased its handling of digital transactions by 43 percent compared to last year.
Federal Bank was one of the early adopters of Oracle Autonomous Database in India. To improve their ATM analytics, the bank used Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud with Oracle Analytics Cloud and Oracle Data Visualization Desktop. They gained a deeper understanding of how customers engage with the bank’s ATMs and the specific functionalities that customers found most useful. By analyzing data faster, in a more predictive fashion, the bank gained more actionable insights faster, enabling them to deliver new functionalities to end customers more quickly. With the availability of the Generation 2 Oracle Cloud region in India, the bank will be able to expand further while addressing concerns around data residency, auditability, compliance, and security.
TTK Healthcare is a leading provider in India of products aimed at improving quality of life for customers. The company’s products span personal care, baby care, pharmaceuticals, and advanced medical devices, such as heart valves. The company previously moved their on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure in the Frankfurt, Germany region with great results: 3x performance improvement, reduced cost compared to their on-premises deployment, improved availability, faster month-end closures, enhanced security, and greater agility for application test and development cycles. The new Oracle Generation 2 Cloud region in India enables TTK Healthcare to further advance its transformation to a digital-first business with a reimagined end-customer experience. The company is planning to move more key production workloads to Oracle Cloud, along with improved disaster recovery and non-production resources, an adopt Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud and Oracle Analytics Cloud to unlock deeper insights and fast-track business decisions.
Sky is the largest satellite pay TV operator in Brazil. Sky tailors entertainment closely to the trends and interests of Brazilians as they learn, connect, and play. Looking for a shorter time-to-market and lower costs, Sky chose Oracle Cloud Infrastructure to deploy innovative new services. In addition to the performance benefits they realized on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, adopting Oracle Autonomous Database simplified their management processes and allowed them to reach customers with specially targeted offerings driven by data insights. Sky expects to grow the solution further with the availability of a local region and eventually plans to move all their infrastructure to the cloud.
AFG is one of the largest mortgage and diversified financial services firms in Australia. They have relied on Oracle technology to drive their business for years. To process around 10,000 home loan applications per month, they used Oracle software to develop a custom credit assessment and decision platform that is core to their growth strategy. They are looking to Oracle’s Generation 2 Cloud region to enable them to scale their credit operations, further automate the decision-making process, and build a strong, sustainable business for years to come.
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, operates the largest particle physics laboratory in the world. Oracle and CERN have been collaborating for over 35 years with on-premises software and systems to solve challenging problems, and more recently, with cloud solutions. The new data center in Switzerland opens new possibilities for the organization in terms of deploying and integrating multiple applications, data types, and data sources in a secure, predictable, lower-latency fashion. This will help CERN to provide more flexible and elastic deployments, and offer a strong platform for disaster recovery for key data systems that support the Large Hadron Collider, the world’s largest particle accelerator.
