Sun volume servers outperform worlwide market

As a follow-on to my recent post on Sun's latest earnings release, I would like to point you all to the Q3CY08 IDC Worldwide Quarterly Server Tracker released today. It is giving a market reference point against which we can compare the growth of Sun's emerging server product lines, Sparc CMT and x64 systems, that are the results of Sun's recent strategic investments.

Segment Growth
Sun X64 (inc. Thumper's) 13%
vs Total X64 server market -6.6%
vs Total Volume server market
-7.2%
Sun Sparc CMT 83%
vs Total Volume server market
-7.2%
vs Total Unix server market
-8.4%
Year/Year Revenue Growth

In addition to good (double-digit) absolute growth, Sun X64 and Sparc CMT systems are largely outperforming their respective markets of reference. This is again good news for Sun, and additional proof that open innovation is working out for Sun.
