Malicious website use will never go away: how do you manage it?

OTN has published two articles by Eli White that stem from his long experience with protecting high volume websites from unwanted and malicious use. Eli has worked on many large scale PHP projects including Digg, TripAdvisor, and for the Hubble space telescope program. I've seen Eli's conference presentation on preventing web site spam and on the deeper topic of website manipulation. I am really glad to see the material put in article format. The techniques Eli covers will always be applicable in one form or another. They should be a fundamental part of any website architect's bag of tricks.

The articles are:

Combating Spam for Healthier Websites

and

Preventing Nefarious Website Manipulation (Gaming a System)

These articles follow on from Eli's recent two part article on Scaling a PHP MySQL Web Application.
