GA Release for OPA 19C (12.2.16)

Brad Tuckett
Release Manager

The Oracle Policy Automation (OPA) team is pleased to announce that OPA Release 19C (12.2.16) is now available for public cloud and private cloud customers.

Oracle Integration OPA interview adapter

The Oracle Integration OPA interview adapter enables generic advice applications to be integrated in to any customer’s application data without changing the policy model. The OPA interview adapter is used to develop integrations in Oracle Integration that load and save the data needed by deployed interviews. In particular, it allows:

  • An interview designer to use Policy Modeling to specify the names and types of data needed by the OPA interview, without knowing which system or systems that data will be obtained from.
  • A deployment administrator to manage the Oracle Integration connection and deployment activation in Policy Automation Hub. The OPA interview adapter is able to connect with Policy Automation Hub to discover the list of deployed interviews, and the set of load and save operations they require.
  • A system integrator to choose from that list of operations, and define an integration in Oracle Integration that loads or saves the data for that operation from any applications using any of the mapping capabilities and other adapters that Oracle Integration provides. Mappings can be updated independently without modifying the deployed interviews.

This feature ensures agility by eliminating custom coded adapters and instead using Oracle Integration’s provided adapters, low code experience and support for one-to-many integrations. This version of the OPA adapter for Oracle Integration extends the previous capabilities that allowed headless (non-interview) based invocations of OPA without needing to write code.

Generic integration protocol for interviews

The generic integration protocol for OPA interviews provides a generic integration solution implementing the same load and save endpoints, and using the same OPA Hub REST APIs as used by the Oracle Integration OPA interview adapter. This allows other integration partners to also build their own external adapters for other applications. Unlike the existing web service connector framework, this new generic integration protocol:

  • Is based on JSON (the simple data format that is used by REST APIs)
  • Does not require a specific connection to be chosen before the project is deployed. The interview author simply defines the expected inputs and outputs, and their names, in Policy Modeling. In other words, the load and save data contract is defined in Policy Modeling independently of any specific data model.

This feature enables agile advice connectors to be developed for legacy applications or a third-party middleware framework. Solutions can evolve from on-premise to hybrid to cloud-based with the confidence that advice applications can remain unchanged.

Import Batch Assess REST requests into Policy Modeling debugger

For customers using OPA in Batch mode, the Policy Modeling Debugger has been enhanced to import Batch Assess REST API request payloads (.json file). On load, the policy tester will be presented with a list of assessments in the batch file to choose from, and can then apply the rich testing capabilities already available in the Debugger for debugging issues in their batch assessments, including:

  • Reading decision reports to understand how a decision was reached
  • Viewing what data was provided and which rules were invoked, and
  • Streamlined creation of unit test cases

This feature enables policy testers to quickly find root cause of integration issues that are occurring such as incorrect or missing data being passed to OPA from other systems.

Update all project inclusions

This release introduces the capability to update all project inclusions in a single click. Available in the Policy Modeling Inclusions subtab and via the command line, the update all command will grab the latest version of every inclusion and accept all changes automatically. This feature will reduce the time to update policy models that pull in shared assets from many projects.

Other enhancements

Set the redirect target for interviews

Redirection links from OPA interviews embedded in iframes now have an additional property allowing the redirection target to be set. The options for the browser behavior when a user leaves an interview are to:

  • Replace the top level window
  • Replace the parent frame
  • Replace self

This feature is available for all exits and redirects (Exit button, Submit button or Submit and Redirect button).

Smart checkpoint resume for embedded interviews

OPA interviews that are embedded into other applications can now auto-resume (without prompting) if a checkpoint is found. This functionality is enabled by using the BatchStartOrResume method with the resumeCheckpointOrStartNew operation and providing the URL parameters needed to start or resume the interview. It works for both Service Cloud and web service connections.

Allow an uploaded attachment to be opened

Interview designers are now able to specify that documents that are uploaded during an interview can be viewed by the interview user. This enables interview users to open an uploaded document to confirm that they have attached the correct document before submitting the interview.

Engagement Cloud connection type

Engagement Cloud is now listed as a distinct connection type when creating a new connection in Policy Automation Hub. This connection type simplifies the creation of connections to Engagement Cloud instances, and also makes use of the typology manager for simplifying the Engagement Cloud side of setting up the connection.
