OpenSolaris Starter Kit

OpenSolaris Starter Kit Have you heard about the OpenSolaris Starter Kit?

The German Unix User Group hosted the very first OpenSolaris Developer Conference in Berlin last week where Simon Phipps announced the new Get.OpenSolaris.org web site that allows anyone in the world to order a kit containing DVDs of OpenSolaris distributions, documentation and source. With a nod towards the good folks at Ubuntu, Sun is sponsoring the kits so that they are completely free of charge, including global delivery.

Sun and Free Software Foundation

Great news as we begin a new phase of our collaboration with our friends at the FSF.

During his keynote presentation at FOSDEM in Brussels this past weekend, Simon Phipps announced that Sun became a Patron of the Free Software Foundation.

"Sun and the FSF have been promoting software freedom add this to the recent announcement that the Java platform will be licensed under the GPL, and it becomes obvious that the connections must be stronger."

For more details of our collaboration with the FSF, visit Simon's blog.
