Sun "Opens Doors" to Bay Area Students

Yesterday, dozens of students from around the Bay Area visited Sun's Menlo Park campus for a day of learning, discovery and connection with eachother and some of the company's brightest minds.


 

The launch of a project developed by employees at Sun Brazil, Project Open Doors will be rolled out to all of the major U.S. campuses soon.  Its goal is to eliminate the digital divide by connecting Sun employees and resources with the communities in which they work.  Participants in CORO's summer program, the students had the opportunity to learn about advertising, career paths and opportunities, technology and how they can help end the digital divide in their schools and neighborhoods.

2007 Xorg Developer's Conference in Menlo Park, CA, February 7-9, 2007

I wanted to alert folks about the upcoming 2007 X.org Developer's Conference being hosted by Sun at 120 Independence Drive in Menlo Park, CA, February 7-9.

We are expecting 30+ developers of this open source cooperative project to attend the 3 day meeting. They will discuss and advance the current work taking place in the areas of security, display auto-configuration and reconfiguration, and new windowing paradigms, including Project Looking Glass, Beryl and Compiz.

As a major sponsor of the Xorg Foundation, Sun has contributed code, money, equipment, and time in all aspects of running the organization, its internet infrastructure, and events. Sun is committed to the success of the Xorg Foundation as the vehicle which guarantees ubiquitous, high-functioning window system service across all Unix operating system flavors and hardware platforms.
