OpenOffice.org: It isn't a gimmick and it isn't watered down!

 Use OpenOffice.orgThe buzz about the benefits of open source software continues with the recent review of OpenOffice.org in the Orlando Sentinel.

In an article posted by Captain Count-the-Change, he has compared free and open source software as 'a generic version of a prescription'. Check it out and take a couple of minutes to read the comments.

Document Freedom Day

A news release was issued yesterday proclaiming 26 March 2008 as the world's first Document Freedom Day (DFD) to celebrate and champion the cause of true freedom for our data.

Simon Phipps has been discussing this topic for several years and even coined the term "Freedom To Leave", referring to the liberty to take your data and go elsewhere uninhibited by DRM, closed interfaces or file formats that require a particular program for faithful reproduction and use. I hope you will take a minute or two to read his entry and if you have comments, post them to his site or this one.
