Sun and KGO Present Eco Live 2007

Saturday, May 5 was an especially exciting day to work at Sun for about 200 of us. Sun and KGO sponsored Eco Live 2007: "Tune in to Your Planet" at the Concouse Exhibition Center. Our own Dave Douglas, VP of Eco Responsibility, delivered an opening keynote and introduced Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Our Sun execs spent some valuable, and inspirational, time with Bobby Kennedy, Jr.  We were glad to tell him more about Sun's eco story and talk about ways we can work together.

To a sold-out crowd of about 1,000, Dave talked about the ways individuals can make a real difference at work and in the organizations in which they are involved. Kennedy delivered an impassioned speech about the role of government in combating global warming, why business and sustainability can go hand in hand, and spoke eloquently about the meaning of nature in our lives. For decades, Kennedy has been a resolute defender of our environment and a renowned speaker and writer. We were very proud to see Sun share the stage with him. Eco Live marked a major milestone in Sun's Eco Responsibility efforts.

The 5th Annual Flex Your Power Awards were also presented at Eco Live. Below is Sun's Ann Bamesberger accepting the award at the ceremony. Sun won in the "Innovative Product or Service" category for its Open Work Program and the Sun Fire T1000/T2000 server.

Another really inspirational part of the day was meeting the youngest person -- 15 years old -- trained by the Al Gore team to give Gore's now famous presentation.  He presented Gore's slides at Eco Live too and gave Al a run for the money.  He's pictured below with Mr. Kennedy.
