Solaris 10 Update 8/07 Available Today - Enhanced Virtualization, Networking, and Database Capabilities

Come and get it: The latest update to the Solaris Operating System (OS) - Solaris 10 8/07 - is available to download today. Rich Green, Sun's Executive Vice President, Software, discusses the news in this three and a half minute podcast, including the customer pains the update addresses, and a review of new features and enhancements. Some of the highlights of the new update:
- Solaris Containers for Linux Applications, enabling Linux applications to run unmodified on Solaris 10.
- PostgreSQL 8.2, now fully integrated with Solaris, with support for DTrace probes, online index builds, and improved warm standby capabilities.
- Improved Network Performance, including a new Large Send Offload feature for hardware-accelerated data transfer on supported NICs, IP instances and MAC addresses for individual containers, and open source Quagga routing software.
