MySQL on Sun's Free and Open Source Software platform delivers enterprise performance results

Open source software stack from Sun and MySQL beats competition in recent Java Application Server Benchmark

A popular application server benchmark, featuring a software stack all based on open source with MySQL 5.0 database, the Solaris(TM) 10 Operating System and Sun Java(TM) Systems Application Server 9.0 Platform Edition, Project GlassFish(SM) has shattered the previous competitive record. The results show that free software based on open source can deliver enterprise performance by offering up to 8.6 times lower cost of acquisition than the comparable solution, according to the benchmark test results published at specorg

This result demonstrates Sun's ability to deliver the optimal open source deployment platform that substantially lowers the total cost-of-ownership for enterprises of all sizes. This solution also demonstrates the best database performance to date, measured in SPECjAppServer2004 OPS@Standard per database core (SPECjAppServer2004 JOPS@Standard /DB core), of any competitive submission using less than 20 total cores in database and application tiers.
