Sun Employees Kick Off Worldwide Volunteer Week – Sharing the Opportunity

This week marks Sun's 13th annual Worldwide Volunteer Week. With over 30 global volunteer projects taking place, employees are joining their local communities to contribute time and energy in a company-wide effort to create opportunities that drive participation, collaboration, economic growth, and social progress.
Completed volunteer events to date:
Canada: Sun employees in Canada have painted the Yellow Brick House, a non-profit organization that provides emergency shelter and services to abused women and their children . Check out their progress: http://blogs.sun.com/buzzcut/
India: An 80 member team comprising of Sun employees (family and friends), members of Clean and Green, and students headed to Muthatti (100kms from Bangalore) on April 14th to clean the Banks of River Cauvery, one of India's major rivers. An output of close to 301 kgs of plastic and PET bottles were handed over to KK Plastics for recycling and reuse.
Lakeside, California: Employees cleaned up piles of trash at Cactus Park. Sun employees, their families and Park Rangers volunteered their Saturday morning in beautifying the area.
In addition to the above, Sun employees will partake in an Extreme School Makeover in Portland; volunteer at local food banks; prepare meals for the homeless; build projects for Habitat for Humanity; paint community centers and local schools, etc. Stay tuned for updates and photos of Sun employees “sharing the opportunity.”
