Service Science and Innovation to be featured on BlogTalk Radio – “Sun Innovation Insider” \*

The services industry has passed manufacturing and agriculture to become the fastest growing and most dominant industry across all of the world's key economies. In the US alone, services now accounts for 75% of the total gross domestic product. Yet studies show that Services is actually the least studied part of our economy.

“Business, academia and government need to focus on service innovation as a priority because growth – in both GDP and revenue and profit – depends on it,” according to Kevin Ellis, Director of Sun's Service Innovation Office.

Ellis and colleague Alok Rishi are among the leaders of Sun's Service Science and Innovation Office. They began the initiative over a year ago after determining businesses and national economies must inevitably depend on services as a growth mechanism.

Tune in to learn how Sun is collaborating in the field of service science and the solutions that will result from this innovation.

Sun Services Distinction Goes Global

Sun Managed Operations Achieves ISO 27001 Certification Globally

In February, Sun announced that Sun’s Managed Operations site in the Americas received the prestigious ISO 27001 certification. And now, both Europe and Asia have received their certifications in the Lithgow, Scotland and the Chennai, India offices. This now completes the worldwide process and makes Sun globally compliant as a supplier of secure business protections and standards. These key awards provide a response to security concerns often expressed by Managed Operations customer prospects, making Sun Managed Operations an even more compelling Services solution

ISO 27001 is the internationally recognized Informational Security Management System (ISMS) standard for protecting an organization's information--and that of its customers. ISO 27001:

   \* Is the only internationally accepted Security Standard
   \* Demonstrates and ensures security best practices, due diligence,
     due care
   \* Provides a management approach to business protection including
     risk, governance and compliance

About 4,000 organizations internationally are ISO 27001 certified. More than half are located in Japan and a quarter in Europe. Only about 70 U.S. certifications have been awarded which is indicative of the distinction of the ISO security certification. Among the esteemed organizations which are ISO security certified across the globe are the US Federal Reserve Bank, Tokyo Stock Exchange, the Royal Bank of Scotland, and the United Nations.

Sun "Opens" Services with New Enterprise SunSpectrum Plan

This week, Sun announced the new SunSpectrum Enterprise Services plan, which offers customers one support contract for one low price. While Sun taking the lead in offering forward-thinking support for our technology is NOT new, what is new is the optional multi-vendor support that comes with this plan: Sun becomes the "one throat to choke" for all support issues in the datacenter, working as the middleman for support issues with hardware/software from IBM, HP, Dell, etc.

Here's what you get with the new SunSpectrum Services plan:

  • Multi-vendor Support Module: Sun will support non-Sun hardware to further simplify contract management and ensure that all hardware issues are resolved quickly and completely;
  • Solaris OS support for Sun and non x64/x86 systems;
  • Site-resident Sun engineers or Sun system administrators;
  • Onsite managed parts inventory;
  • Environmental assessment service;
  • Remote monitoring;
  • Patch service
