The First Sighting
By Brian Leonard on Jun 24, 2008
With the release of OpenSolaris 2008.05 we bring users this new blog on how to get the most out of the operating system available at opensolaris.com. We will use this space to help the growing community of OpenSolaris users with tips on installation, configuration, applications, etc. The Observatory is not just a blog aggregator. We will be providing original content and also scanning the web for other great tips. Ideally, The Observatory will become a primary source of information on how best to use OpenSolaris.
Who are we? This blog has been started by three open source enthusiasts: Brian Leonard, Gregg Sporar and Roman Strobl. Our passion is evangelizing OpenSolaris. Some of you may know us from our previous roles where we focused on NetBeans (see Brian's blog, Gregg's blog and Roman's blog). Stay tuned as we expand our horizons with our effort here. This blog will be our brain dump - what's new and cool in OpenSolaris, how to benefit from different features, where to get the packages you need, and similar topics.
