Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5.0.18 download available on My Oracle Support

If you have been following the EM releases for a while, you are familiar with Release Updates (RUs). RUs are the agile way to roll out new EM features and bug fixes, you don't have to wait for a major release. RUs are versioned with a trailing digit indicating the RU version. Note that RUs are cumulative, which means that the most recent RU includes functionality from all previous release updates. Our general recommendation is to apply the most current RU as soon as possible.

Access the download on My Oracle Support and select Patches & Updates.

Key updates in Oracle Enterprise Manager 13.5 RU18

Highlights of Enterprise Manager 13.5 RU18 include the following:

Monitoring - Save a step output into a Runbook variables

If you are a user of EM's Monitoring capabilities, be sure to check out Dynamic Runbooks, the step-by-step documented procedures that can help resolve issues faster. In this new release, when you define a Runbook step, you can dynamically assign data from the output of the step to populate values of author-defined Runbook variables. This saves authoring time and improves the session user (run time) experience.

Monitoring - Multi-event type support for event compression policies

For those who use events, you can now define event compression policies that compress events of different event types (Target Availability, Metric Alert, and so on). This enables a broader set of events to be compressed, resulting in a smaller set of actionable incidents.

Dashboards - Additions to the Dashboards Page

To simplify the experience with the main Dashboards page, you can now "Show widgets" (a list of available out-of-the-box and custom widgets) or "Show filters" (a list of available filters on the Filters page).

Dashboards - Additions to the Widgets and Filters Tabs

The "Launch widgets/filters table view" option is now available in the Widgets and Filters tabs. When creating or editing a dashboard, click the "Launch widgets table view" icon in the Widgets tab to view the widget library in a tabular format. In addition, you can also filter the list of widgets or filters, in both tabs.

Performance Hub - New Blocking Sessions Tab

The "Blocking Sessions" tab in Performance Hub allows you to view the current blocking and waiting sessions in a hierarchical display. This includes detailed information about each blocking session, sessions blocked by blocking sessions, drill down to SQL to determine the cause of blocking, and the ability to perform other troubleshooting tasks such as terminating sessions to resolve a waiting session problem.

ADDM Spotlight Enhancements

In this release, ADDM Spotlight has been enhanced to display the following for a RAC database:

  • Total Database Time During Time Range, which is the total database time for the selected time range
  • Show instance-level contribution, to determine the contribution of that RAC instances to a particular finding, as shown below:
Show RAC instance-level contribution

ADDM Spotlight packs a lot of information, including event annotations, in its Findings and Recommendations tabs. Use the zoom-in and zoom-out icons, or the mouse scroll bar, to change the time range being displayed. You can also use the mouse and touchpad to scroll to the right or left of the chart. This comes in handy when examining data over a longer or shorter duration of time.  Here is where to look for these options:

Lifecycle Management - Database Migration enhancements

For new installations of Enterprise Manager 13.5, starting with Release Update 18 (13.5.0.18), the job that downloads the latest utilities required for migration will be disabled by default. For existing Enterprise Manager users, the job will remain enabled for three months after the last Migration Workbench activity. You have to enable this job to get the latest updates if you are actively performing a migration.

Migration activities that are Completed With Errors can now be signed off using EM CLI or REST API commands, in addition to the already existing option to Mark them as Complete in the Migration Workbench UI. You can also revert Migration activities that had been previously marked as Complete to Completed With Errors. This is useful if issues are found that require additional attention and troubleshooting for a Migration activity that was previously reviewed and marked as Complete.

Fleet Maintenance – Patching and Upgrade enhancements

AutoUpgrade, the preferred utility for upgrading Oracle databases, is now integrated with Enterprise Manager’s Fleet Maintenance to perform single instance and RAC database upgrades to version 12.2 and later.

During a software deployment, using the EM CLI db_software_maintenance verb, if an Oracle Home is no longer available or it was completely removed from a host, you can redeploy it on the same host by using a new IS_REDEPLOY="true" parameter. Note that this capability is also available with REST APIs.

Lifecycle Management - Configuration and Compliance enhancements

A new verb was introduced in EM CLI that can query previously suppressed Configuration and Compliance patch recommendations for a specific target, multiple targets, or a specific target type. In addition, the latest STIG Version 2 Release 7 standards for Oracle Database 12c and 19c are now available via the Self Update option and the traditional Configuration and Compliance standard options.

Discover and Monitor Autonomous Exadata VM Clusters in Oracle Exadata Database Service

The guided discovery process for an Exadata Infrastructure target type now includes the discovery of "Autonomous Exadata VM Clusters" associated with the Oracle Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D) target. After the discovery is complete, explore the new target and associated Autonomous Exadata VM Clusters home pages.

Enhancements in REST APIs

Various new or enhanced REST APIs are part of this release. Here are the details by category:

       Fleet Maintenance

  • New REST API for Create Gold Image Version using an existing version
  • Support of reportOnly option for Rollback DB
  • imageType & creationType inputs replaced with storage destination in Version creation request payload

       Credentials Management
