An Oracle blog about Application UX

MDC ShipIt a Great Success!

We knew the MDC team would deliver some great ideas and they did not disappoint. The event was a bit smaller than the ShipIt in December but the finalists were just as committed to their ideas and demonstrated to us the amazing quality they can produce in just 24 hours. In true ShipIt style, the winners were decided by the actual participants. Each team was allocated "venture capital" funding that they could then appropriate to the team(s) they felt deserved financial backing. The judges were given a slightly higher amount of VC to invest.

Congratulations Team Mariachis for their winning concept. Announcing "Lobby," a kiosk to aid building reception with visitors, delivery persons, and interviewees. The user enters his/her name or company and depending on the role, an API to the company directory finds the appropriate Oracle contact who is then notified via email and IM that the visitor or delivery is awaiting. A label can also be printed for the visitor. This is especially timely with efforts for a new office in MDC in the works. We hope to see "Lobby" in production much sooner!

2nd place went to Team Rollers. They created a modernized UI to manage Oracle Cloud VMs. Currently, the VMs are managed via the command line and there is no warning when quota is met, causing valuable time to be lost. With the new interface, developers can view and manage VMs with an intuitive web design.

3rd place was awarded to UAE Tacklers who presented a winning enhancement to the internal documentation system that will save Information Developers hundreds of hours. A complex process to insert glossary terms was reduced to only a couple simple steps, saving time and reducing the opportunity for error.

As we say many times, you do not need an award to produce a winning idea. In fact, rumor has it one of the other teams already has a product from the ShipIt ready for production. Perhaps an award for fastest time to production??

Congratulations to all the teams and participants. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event possible, and thanks especially to MDC management for allowing their people to take part in the innovation event.
