Article: From database to RESTful web service to HTML5 in 10 minutes

NetBeans product manager and blogger Geertjan has published an article on JAXenter about building HTML5 clients to Java RESTful web services using the new HTML5 development features in NetBeans 7.3. Creating data-driven HTML5 applications is becoming easier!

Can you post the database schema and sql script to fill the tables.

It's the Derby Sample database that you see when you go to the Services window in NetBeans IDE. I believe it is provided by GlassFish once you register it in the IDE.

Great example, is it possible to extend the Html5 application to work in offline mode and sync with the derby database via rest service when online.

Is it possible to do the same with SOAP-based webservices when security is a concern or do you have tips/advice on securing applications using RESTful web services? Many thanks.

I must say I am not familiar with any approaches to calling SOAP-based webservices from JavaScript code, I imagine there must be a way to do that. NetBeans does not provide any specific support for that. As for securing RESTful services, would it be sufficient for you to just use https?
