    are any of these addressed in the new version? (some probably are just my fault for not looking hard enough for the answer)

    (1) With many ftp programs you can tell it to open a file with another application.

    When that other program makes a change to the file, the ftp program automatically uploads the file.

    This way, your text editor/image editor/IDE doesn't need to have its own built in functionality for working with files another machine via ftp.

    In my ftp program when I tell it to "Open in netbeans 6.7.1" the file doesn't open.

    (2) I have a php file in a subfolder and I want to include a file from the project root.

    Typing include_once '../' does not list any files from the root of the project.

    So I meanually type in ../config.php

    Clicking that file to open it in a new tab opens the right file but config.php is not highlighted in the Files panel (View-Synchronize editor with views is ON).

    But if I double click config.php to open it and go through all my tabs the all highlight the proper file (including the most recently opened config.php). The first config.php I opend via clicking in the code still doesn't highlight the proper file.

    (3) How do I get TAB to insert tabs instead of spaces?

    (4) How do I change the visible width of tabs to look like 3 spaces?

    (5) How do I soft wrap text?

    (6) How do I select everything between html tags or curly braces quickly?

    (7) Is there a way to QUICLY just get a new file without having to go through the wizard that makes you save the file first. Sometimes you just want to make a quick note an have no intention of saving the file.

    (8) Right clicking a document tab shows the option "clone document". This does not actually make a duplicate of the document. It opens another view of the document. It should be renamed to "clone view" or "duplicate tab".

    In the right click menu of the Files/Project panels there should be a proper "duplicate file" in the same group as cut/copy/paste

    1) It should work. At least I can associate files with NetBeans and then open the file in NetBeans.

    2) This looks like a bug and I need to look at this.

    3) Tools->Options->Editor->Formatting

    4) You can specify that the tab will be 3 spaces in the same option dialog like in 3). But probably it's not exactly what you want.

    5) This feature is planned for NetBeans 6.9. Not available yet in NetBeans 6.8

    6) Use CTRL+SHIFT+[ if the caret position is behind the tag or brace.

    7) No, there is no way.

    8) I agree with you. Could you please file a bug for this?

    Probably is fixed. At least it works for me now.

    I have sent mail to our installer team to check the situation.

    margin-left: -100%; doesn't work in css editor, why?

  • Skyblaze Sunday, December 13, 2009

    In netbeans (also the final 6.8) when i open a javascript file of about 800 lines the software becomes really slow and it doesn't responds for several seconds

  • davidtan Monday, December 14, 2009

    Why can't netbeans updates itself from 6.7.1 to 6.8? Will this never be supported?

  • Anton Danilchenko Monday, December 14, 2009

    Please, help me specify correct data type in @return statement.

    I create different classes:

    class c1 {

    \* @return this

    public finction singleton() {

    class c2 extends c1 {

    class c3 extends c1 {

    public function test() {

    $c3 = c3::singleton();

    $c3-> // I have see test() method

    This really implemented?

  • Anton Danilchenko Monday, December 14, 2009

    or this method

    class c1 {

    \* Set sort order of returned lines.

    \* @param int $column Name of column with ASC or DESC

    \* @return this

    public function sort($column) {

    // link to current model

    return $this;

    // code

    $c3 = new c3();

    $c3->sort('name')-> // expected show autocompletion for c3 class, not for c1 class!

  • Petr Pisl Tuesday, December 15, 2009

    Why do you use "this" as a return type? It's not a type. You have to use correct type, so c1 or c3.

    I'm going to look at this.

  • Nadeem Shafi Tuesday, December 15, 2009

    I cant find anywhere what improvements have been made in regards to oop php and subversion and ml js json etc. Not that it needed much but yes it seems more stable but i would like something new it would be nice.

    Netbeans 6.8 running on windows.

    With a 5000 line class file open in a project, when netbeans window is in focus and nothing is being done by the user CPU utilisation jumps between 50 and 90%. It then settles, but if the user does something trivial (Removes a single character from a comment, for example) the CPU gets fully loaded for another 5-10 seconds.

    Typing is incredibly slow, practically unusable. Code completion takes a lengthy amount of time to appear.

    Working in smaller files is OK, but having to work on Monoliths and performance is terrible. Resorting to Notepad++ for working on large files, which is not really a decent compromise as the netbeans featureset is great :(

    System: AMD Core 5000 2.6Ghz, 2Gb RAM, WinXP SP3

  • Ondřej Brejla Thursday, December 17, 2009

    I have a same issue like Nadeem, usage of CPU jumps to 100%...sometime, for ex. when trying to use code completion, writing some code, ... When it happens I have to exit NB using kill command. There is no other way to exit NB.

    System: Ubuntu 9.10, NB 6.8, 2GB RAM, Core2Duo T8100 2,1GHz

  • Petr Pisl Thursday, December 17, 2009

    It would be great, if someone could send me a file with such class. Just to find the root of the problem.

  • Marc Friday, December 18, 2009

    I'm using Netbeans 6.8 for PHP projects. I would like to ant for tests and documentation but, ant build scripts aren't available from the new file/other menu. I did install the ant plugin and when creating a java web project, it is available. Is there any way to get this working?

  • Denyerec Monday, December 21, 2009

    Hi Petr,

    Whilst I can't send you the file in question (I do not own it, it's sadly part of company IP) an example of a large classfile is the simplepie include from http://simplepie.org/

    It's nearly 15,000 LOC though it is broken into smaller classes within so doesn't behave quite as badly.

    Best I can do at the moment, will keep looking for a GPL example of a monolith :)

  • Urkman Monday, December 21, 2009

    I found a bug in Netbeans 6.8 with Code Completion.

    I posted this bug:

    Hope you can fix it quickly :-)

  • Anton Danilchenko Tuesday, December 22, 2009

    I not see NB 6.8 in Ubuntu repository.

    Please, fix this problem and pass NB 6.8 to Ubuntu repository for all users. Thanks!

  • Petr Pisl Thursday, December 24, 2009

    To Marc:

    I wrote one post about Ant support in PHP project. It's here: http://blogs.sun.com/netbeansphp/entry/ant_support_on_php_projects

    Although it's written for NB 6.5, I think it's still valid for NB 6.8 and it can help you.

  • Petr Pisl Thursday, December 24, 2009

    To Denyerec:

    Thanks, I'm solving (I hope the same problem) with Ondrej. He was also willing to profile it and I need to analyze the results.

    Anyway I will need any help for testing, when it will be fixed.

  • Petr Pisl Thursday, December 24, 2009

    To Urkman:

    Thanks for reporting it. I hope we will be able to fix it after new year.

  • Petr Pisl Thursday, December 24, 2009

    To Anton:

    It has to be done by our installer team. I already urgent this.

  • Zyx Sunday, December 27, 2009

    I'm quite disappointed with the new release. The old problems with Subversion are not fixed (ignoring files in new directories, problems with forcing NetBeans NOT TO send "nbproject" to the repository, destroying files which contain lines like "=========" in case of conflicts whereas original Subversion handles them without any problems etc. \*) and the code completion for PHP code is broken, which makes writing anything bigger annoying. I put curly brackets in the new line, but NetBeans thinks this is still the same line and makes unnecessary indentation for the first bracket. It does not respond on changing this option in the configuration. Syntax highlighting is quite broken, too: configuration shows that the method names should be printed in normal, black font, but in the code they are bold. I hope the problems will be fixed soon, becuase for now I must downgrade to NB 6.7.

    \* - I actually tried to report one of them, but nobody has answered so far.

  • Skyblaze Sunday, December 27, 2009

    Another real problem is that when you use a subversion repository in ssh mode, you are always prompted with the password box on every command

  • spam Wednesday, December 30, 2009

    Hi. Here Options-->Fonts&Colors-->Syntax-->language:PHP-->Operator, I change the color, but in the code only => <= >> << && || :: AND etc. are highlighted, but not + < > = . The exact same thing, but for "All languages" works OK.

    I also can't change NUMBER color separately, etc. etc..

    Overall the Netbeans PHP module's syntax checking and coloring is quite poor (compared to Java or other PHP IDEs).

    It seems to me, that (at least judging by the contents of this blog) you're spending your time on minor inteface upgrades, while the basics are FAR from ideal. Nobody would use Netbeans in the Java world if it had so many defects. The whole PHP plugin seems to me like an alpha, feature incomplete, development version of a future product, than a full featured PHP IDE usable for production environment.

    Uhhhhuh.... and don't let me even start on the frameworks topic :X

    I have this problems when working with netbeans:

    sometimes when code completition gets involved it ends up with just "please wait..." message + cpu usage goes to 100%, im able to save my work and i have to kill netbeans...

    and some times when i want to use code templates (i.e. when i type "if" + tab) i get cpu usage to 100% and i have to kill netbeans as they are not responding (and i am not able to save my work...).

    This is very annoying and its happening quite often...

  • Cormo Sunday, January 3, 2010

    "Reset Windows" doesn't seem to work in Netbeans 6.8 for MAC ... It's a real pain!

  • Gorgonzo La Pasta Friday, January 15, 2010

    It is really very, very sad that this nice IDE was not implemented in a modern, portable and FAST language. So nice features, so unusable slow.

  • torkil Tuesday, February 16, 2010

    Upon upgrading from 6.7.1, my custom licence is no longer working.

    Any new PHP-file now just reads:

    Error reading included file Templates/Scripting/../Licenses/license-bedre.txt

    I imported settings from 6.7.1 on the first run of the program, and I have tested this on both 6.8 and 6.9 M1.

  • Petr Pisl Wednesday, February 17, 2010

    To Torkil: Could you file a bug for it and attach an exception or log file? Probably there is a bug in the importing setting, but should be evaluated. Thanks.

  • Tinieblo Wednesday, March 3, 2010

    Greetings to all.

    First of all apologize for my bad English.

    I'm new to NetBeans and i am interested in developing websites in PHP.

    My question is that I don't find a design view as does, for example Dreamweaver (it combines the design and code view)

    Does this version of NetBeans design view for PHP?

    Through a plugin?

    Thank you very much and best regards.

    After 6.8 becomes unstable, often crashes. Are still using 6.7

  • Barry Friday, June 18, 2010

    I have had to adopt some other folks code (PHP), the file is huge (>1000) line.

    Netbeans 6.8 is unusable with this file, I type a character and then wait for seconds before I can add another character.

    I have been using NB 6.8 with symfony and it has been fine, but this is ridiculous and totally unacceptable as a development environment.

    What on earth is going on behind the scenes and how do I turn it off?

    I notice that I am not the only one to experience this issue.

  • nadeem Saturday, June 19, 2010

    i had this issue a year ago when i was using extjs with zend, the extjs files generated for interfaces the code was huge, best realistic way to tackle long term issues is to break up files into convention, its like my 2.0 litre TS SELESPEED robotic clutchless triptronic alfa romeo, if you want a car thats fun u gota pay the price.

  • Barry Saturday, June 19, 2010

    Sorry, but this response is just plain silly. The analogy is so wrong as to be a nonsense.

    The point here is that at times, we, the developers want to be able to control the way in which the IDE works. In this particular case, I want the interface to simply act as an editor.

    In terms of your comment to split the files up, of course this is waht we ant to do. THe point is that you simoply cant use NB 6.8 for that purpose, I reverted to gVim and then phpEdit to clean the file up and then went back to Netbeans.

    This is not only not a solution, its a pain in bum.

    Could you please elaborate on what 'convention' you mean? And by your comment are you suggesting that the choice of IDE must be definition define your programming style?

    Sorry, but you have not added to the issue.

    The answer is to provide the ability to fully control ALL background process offered by the IDE.

    Stay well

  • nadeem Tuesday, June 22, 2010

    split the files up into includes, use ctrl click to click through into related files to the root dated file, you should try and make things easy for yourself by doing some hard work you can make things more simpler. Split files eg if you have a view or similar into parts and you can do the same with classes and methods.

    You know a fun IDE is one that lets you do everything and also does things on your behalf for just about anything. Obviously if you stick the equivalent of 100 people inside a Ferrari the engine will seize.

  • nadeem Tuesday, June 22, 2010

    there must be a sports/manual mode for the IDE, there is a config file in the installation directory where you can control features
