Before i use Netbeans for my PHP IDE (Netbeans Early Access For PHP) i used zend studio 5 for logic code and Macromedia Dreamweaver for UI Design. Code completion in Netbeans is fast, and has a good look and feel than Zend Studio. Is it possible in Netbeans For PHP to has a feature like Dreamweaver for create UI (WYSIWYG)? (i'm sorry for my english, i am still learning english right now)

A wysiwyg editor is not planned for NetBeans 6.5 and our team doesn't work on such feature. But there is a team, which is trying to prototype such editor for NetBeans. The goal of this project is that the editor will be reusable for all web technologies, not only html, but also PHP, JSP, rhtml etc. I don't have any estimate, when it will be done or when there will be available a preview.

Do you use now such editor? Which one?

    Regards, Petr

Keep up the good work guys. I've gone through a number of PHP editors recently and Netbeans PHP definitely shows a lot of promise.

  • Petr Pisl Tuesday, July 8, 2008

    Thanks Adam for these words.

  • Denny Chan Thursday, July 10, 2008

    Thanks for reply.

I am using Dreamweaver for WYSIWYG HTML editor (UI) and Netbeans for PHP (Logic). http://www.codegear.com/products/delphi/php is IDE for PHP that has WYSIWYG features. But of course Dreamweaver and Delphi For PHP is not free.Oke, but Netbeans for PHP is the best free IDE for PHP that i am using right now.

Thanks and Keep Spirit!, Bravo Netebeans.

    Hi, i love thigs we can do whit netbeans, but i would like to know if there is in plans to add visual editor for php files, i can tell you this could be the thing make php programers come to netbeans, and there are lots of them... also i want to congratulate netbeans team for the grat job is making. "ArrayList netbeans = new ArrayList(){"the","best","IDE","for","PHP"};

    sorry for my english.

  • Petr Wednesday, September 17, 2008

    Hi Antonio,

I agree it would be cool to have a visual designer. Not only for PHP:). Unfortunately our resources are limited and this feature requires a lot of time. So now we don't plan to do it for NB 6.5. In the future we will see.

    Regards,

    Petr

Netbeans IDE is the best thing to happen in PHP world since sliced-bread.

I have used many different editors, Aptana, Eclipse PDT, Dreamweaver etc.

But nothing beats the new Netbeans IDE in terms of features and ease of development. ( I could be bised here as I use netbeans for java development

and favour it over Eclipse and other java IDEs, and for good reasons).

The only thing lacking is WYSWYG editor. If that coulod be included in netbeans, I could completely ditch dreamweaver and use Netbeans as my primary development tool for PHP as well as java development.

And if netbeans team is looking for contributors to develop WYSWYG editor for netbeans, I would be more than happy to contribute.

And since I have used netbeans Platform (modules) to develop desktop apps, it shouldn't be too hard for me to get oriented and started.

Kudos to Netbeans team for making perhaps one of the most significant contribution to PHP community.a

    Hi Anzaan,

thanks for the comment. Every help is welcome. Create useful WYSWYG editor takes probably long time. At first should be specified, what users expect from such editor, which kind of users is the targer etc. You know, write up requirements and expectations.

    Thanks,

    Petr

Yeah, really Netbeans is the best free PHP editor I've ever used. I could say, PhpDesigner is so good too, but it works only on Windows... Netbeans is for Windows... linux (my Ubuntu 8.04 loves Netbeans!), Mac, etc, etc....

Sure it's a great idea to have a WYSIWYG editor for PHP/HTML/XHTML/JSP, etc (Enterprice projects (JSP) has that editor?...). Maybe, it would take a lot of time to create such an editor for Web, but if the need exists, why not to take the needed time?.

One thing is sure: If WYSIWYG web editor for Netbeans is created, Netbeans would become in something like the "prince of the IDE's"... Who knows, maybe... the "King of the IDE's"?

  • Petr Tuesday, November 4, 2008

    Hi DavidZ,

sure it would be nice to have a WYSIWYG html editor. But you need to assign at least one engineer for long time to provide the functionality and in the current situation we don't have enough resources for current set of features.

There could be based a community project with this target and I would really support such project.

Now we are still in the planing phase for NB 7.0 and today we have discussed this the WYSIWIG editor as well. But still the main question are the resources.

    Regards,

    petr

  • DavidZ Thursday, December 18, 2008

Yes, resources... sure it's a problem. Just a question: Do you have a Donation area at your netbeans website?, Say, Wikipedia, in example, has that area... now they have near 3'000.000 dollars (I guess). Netbeans is a great project. Maybe you could get the needed resources in this way... Sure we, your comunity, will give our bit of sand to become Netbeans the Only IDE we need \^_\^

It's an idea... I have not browsed all of your site, so I don't know if you have a donation area.

I think time have already passed,

that netbeans should have a WYSIWIG editor ,

i am working in netbeans for the last 3 years on web projects,

and it is often a big itch to switch to external application for design changes every time

please consider WYSIWIG editor as a very very important feature that is needed,

so that Netbeans will be the king of IDEs

  • Laurent Hayoun Friday, January 23, 2009

    Hi,

you can include this java bean component for wysiwyg mode => http://www.sferyx.com or http://www.realobjects.com

    Regards Laurent

PS: netbeans is a great product but Wysiwyg mode for php, html, xhtml is very important error to not be considered !

If someone want to develop this plugin, I can help !

  • highjo Thursday, February 19, 2009

I definitively agree with everybody up here. What is needed is the WYSIWYG.I think almost everybody using netbeans has more or less a reason do use netbeans for web development and it'ld be much easier if from a single IDE.I'm especially waiting for that feature and almost convince all my friends to give netbeans a try.I've use dreamweaver , nusphere,PDT i think to me things are more natural from netbeans, except web gui authoring.Netbeans is a great IDE please keep it up. and Bravo for the development team.i can imagine that great IDE like netbeans is free.Keep it up guys!

Please for the ressources let the community give a hand by donations by developing subsets or units of that project by adding suggestions or requirements.Even if we can't cover everything.thanks

You have my vote too the tutorials for PHP are excellent and it really helps newbies like me. I too use dreamweaver and would love to switch to netbeans for all my web development needs.

I think real programmers don't need such a tool!

Edit your HTML yourself and feel the precision!

  • Matheus Finotti Wednesday, October 21, 2009

About WYSIWYG i think that is very important when the webdeveloper need to be faster, in some pieces of code that need more design than code.

  • mambi Monday, April 5, 2010

Yes, i agree a design mode is very important while developing, although its use is not common but it saves time

  • Aruna Monday, May 10, 2010

Why you guys don't want to provide at least a wysiwyg editor for HTML. you can extend it to other languages later. But most importantly BASIC HTML sysiwyg editor enough.

    thanks.

    I use Codelobster PHP Edition.

It is free HTML, PHP, CSS editor with special CodeInspector like FireBug has.
