An Oracle blog about NetBeans for PHP

Improvements in Coloring

Hi all! Today we would like to introduce you some of our new coloring features which will be available in NetBeans 7.2. Let's start with Apache Config Files.

Everyone of you surely know .htaccess or httpd.conf files. These are configuration files for Apache Web Server. And in NetBeans 7.2 we can color this file type! Look at the picture below.

Next coloring improvements are implemented in PHP editor. First of them is a coloring of PHP numbers and the second one is a coloring of HTML tags inside PHPDocs. Look at the picture below to see how it looks like.

That's all for today and as usual, please test it and if you find something strange, don't hesitate to file a new issue (component php, subcomponent Editor). Thanks.

    Great news!

I wonder if there is a way to color file end *.ini.php

    Example:

    http://mentax.eu/printscreen/hwao/2012-02-20_1247.png#1466x513 (this method not work)

I use *.ini.php for seciury reson (<?php die();?>) and i cant make netbeans to parse and color that file.

    Is there any solution?

Nice features :-) thanks for that.

But the coloring of numbers has worked already in previous versions. I have defined the color of all numbers to 'red', so numbers in PHP, Javascript, etc. have been colored correctly.

    What is the difference?

guest: I think that it's not doable in NB now. Because .ini should be somehow embedded into PHP and that's really really strange...

Christian: Thanks! Now you can set a color just for PHP numbers...separately.

What's the recommended way to open ANSI .htaccess files in UTF-8 projects?

This is a good addition. However, there is still the issue of easily changing the colors in NetBeans to create a beautiful interface. Sure, I can change every part of a theme, currently, in NetBeans. But, it is an overly complex task to do so.

If there was an XML file where the colors were listed, or a better UX to change the colors, NetBeans would receive many more beautiful theme submissions from the community. I would personally like to construct my own color theme, but it is daunting.

I believe this is a large barrier to much more widespread acceptance. NetBeans is already the best free code editor for Windows. Give designers the opportunity to create a beautiful UX and it will become the only real solution for many coders. I would volunteer to create themes for the NetBeans platform, if it were easier to do so.
