WHAT IS OPEN SOURCE

WANT TO WORK ON YOUR SYSTEM WITH YOUR REQUIREMENTS FULFILLED. WHY TO DEPEND ON ENGINEERS TO MODIFY THE SOFTWARES ACCORDING TO YOUR NEEDS. THE NEEDS ARE ENDLESS. SO MOVE TO OPEN SOURCE, MODIFY THE CODE YOURSELF AND DO EVERYTHING WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.
Most of us have confusion about what is open source? when we all heared about it first time, we all think like why should i go for learning or participating open source technologies. what are these?
There are two types of software products which we all used: one is the open source softwares and other are the proprietary software produts.
These are the softwares which are presently used by all of us like Microsoft Windows, RealPlayer, iTunes, Adobe Photoshop, WinZip and some versions of UNIX.
These are known as non-free software or closed-source software
Software with restrictions on using, copying and modifying as enforced by the proprietor
These restrictions are sought by either legal or technical means and sometimes both. Technical means include releasing machine-readable binaries to users and withholding the human-readable source code. Legal means can involve software licensing, copyright, and patent law
These does'nt provide their source code to the user.
They can refer to a software utility that solves a general problem but was developed as part of a non-free application. This utility is thus not available as a separate unit nor is it free
we need to purchase the whole package to use it
OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARES:
In general, open source refers to any program whose source code is made available for use or modification as users or other developers see fit.
Open source software is usually developed as a public collaboration and made freely available.
This is a less-confusing name for what is also called 'Free Software'. It describes the development method used for many pieces of software, including the Linux kernel, where the source is freely available for anyone to work on, or modify, or learn from, or use in other projects.
When the source code of a computer program is made available free of charge to the general public, it's known as open source. The basis of open source software is to produce more useful and bug-free products for everyone to use.
Open source licenses include the GNU General Public License. Popular open-source software includes: Apache, PHP, Mozilla Firebird and the Linux kernel.
Software that has the source code used to build it available for everyone to view, enabling other people to modify the code if necessary.
Anyone can use and alter the software code to their requirements under a general public licence without a fee. ...
Because anyone can modify the source code, bug fixes, improvements or implementation of new specific features occur rapidly.
Making the raw, non-compiled code behind a program available to the public for other programers to analyze, modify, and improve.
Freely distributable and modifiable software to which the source code (or uncompiled software) is available.
