Opensolaris Developer Preview - A Halloween Event

It's finally happened.  The much anticipated, talked, argued about, Indiana project delivery has occurred.  The odds of getting this out looked risky.  One of our sites had a major network outage for about a day late last week and then just yesterday another system outage occurred along with a 5.6 richter quake in the Bay area.  It was almost like we were pushing the limits.

Yet the distributed development model worked.  There were people across 4 continents  and more than 8 countries working across 19 time zones.   Truly the sun never set on this.

The code reviews were done in public.  More importantly the community members were doing  code reviews and providing some excellent feedback which was incorporated.

And now its done.  Its the first step and it would not have been done without the community.

You can start  here to get more information and download OpenSolaris Developer Preview.  When I tested it out at home, over cable with wifi, it took about 15 minutes.

Comments:

I just downloaded, live booted, and then installed the preview. It just works! So simple anyone can do it. This is truly a wonderful step forward.
